i'm here! and as my brother in steel has intimated, i am a rat (fan/collector of the swamp rat knives) and not a hog (same but for busse knives), so i am immediately inclined to go swamp rat. given your choices, i would definitely go with the ratweiller.
-RATWEILLER: good all around camp/utility knife. sure, there are smaller knives that will outslice this bad boy, but you will be hard pressed to find anything that outperforms this guy, especially at the same price. like mentioned before, this guy is straight up utility. 7.5"x.25" blade, micarta handles, and touch as hell steel. INFI is only slightly better from everything i have gathered, and that seems to be mainly in the rust resistance category. flexibility, durabilty, edge retention, etc are all very close with the two.
-CAMP TRAMP: with a slight edge over the Ratweiller for utility (simply because of it's res-c handle), this guy is supposedly one of, if not the, best camp knife ever. same blade profile as the ratweiller (and no the ratweiller did not replace the camp tramp, they are contemporaries), but has been discontinued along with the battle rat for the time being.
-BATTLE RAT: the heavy chopper of the Swamp Rat line. very similar profile to the Camp Tramp, but in a 9.5" blade. also discontinued for the time being. being temporarily replaced by...
-RAT MASTIFF: the big sister of the Ratweiller. simiar blade profile, etc, in a 9.5" blade. micarta handles. there is only one bigger Rat, the ultra limited and elusive RatDaddy, which was only sold at one Blade show, and is now only available on the secondary market. the RatMastiff comes out tonight for a limited engagement, will probably sell out tonight, and quickly. i intend to get one of these, so i will post pics later.
-HELL RAZOR: one of the meaner looking Busses to come along in a while. however, this knife is more of a 'fighter' than a utility blade. a slimmer and slightly smaller blade than either the Ratweiller or the Camp Tramp (HR is 7"x3/16"), it has Busse's new Corrugated Bevel Technology in it's blade, which should help make it lighter and more rigid, and of course, it is made of INFI steel. while perhaps not quite the performer in chopping areas that the Ratweiller or RatMastiff are, this will be a much faster knife, and with it's thinner profile a better slicer.
all that being said, there are also other Busse knives out there that would do well in a camp environment, but at much higher cost. both the Steel Heart and Battle Mistress (neither of which are readily available in their standard formats) would do wonderfully in a camp environment, but at a very minimum price tag of $400, are a bit cost prohibitive (at least in my world) for a real beater knife.
so to sum up, get yourself a Ratweiller. it's one bad mamma jamma of a knife, and at a direct price of about $179, very hard to beat. there is a batch of them coming up, so if you order one from Swamp Rat, the wait should be no more than a few weeks. once you have one, you will want for little else.
except for maybe another Ratweiller.
