I (my AR) likes the heaver 62gr but I'm thinking the Privi Partisain is not as good quality as the LC or hornady. Also not sure about the steel insert verses lead? Thoughts? Comments? Any other suggestions? Heard some good things about Montana Gold? Which would you get for plinking and SHTF?

The Hornady 55s are exceptionally good in my experience.

People claim that the Hornady's will hold 1MOA.

I use Hornady 55 fmj boat tail. 85 per k

What degree of accuracy do you require for SHTF ammo? And which of the three listed does your particular rifle(s) like?
Link Posted: 1/29/2011 4:51:21 PM EDT
My AR likes the heaver 62gr but the Privi is probably the lowest quality out of the 3 so it may be a wash.

You might want to keep more of a variety. I like to keep lots of the Hornady 55 grn FMJBT W/C for they are the best bang for the $$. But also keep 62 grn FMJBT W/C, SS109, 68 grn OTM, Hornady 75grn BTHP ,sierra 77 grn OTM, LC 55grn FMJBT and Winchester 55grn FMJ.

My stock is running low though.

Another vote for the Hornady 55gr.

Wow, I wish that stack was in my closet!

Haven`t gotten great accuracy from the PPU 62 gr. stuff Wideners sells. Another poster mentioned this. The Hornady 55 gr. is gonna be a much better bullet. I like them.

My question would be, how many spare barrels does he have laying around?

How bad will the 62 grn w/ the "soft" steel insert mess up ar500 steel targets? I know velocity is the enemy when it comes to keeping steel intact and 62 will be slower than 55.

Right now Midway has Hornady 55gr FMJBT for $74.69 per 1k (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=1165165907). It says they should be in soon so they are allowing backorders.

These:

No need to pay for the hornady if plinking/training on human SD targets. These will shoot just fine and I suspect that they are pulled military bullets so they are M193 spec. Should work fine for SD if they were laying around.

I've had good results from Hornady. The LC M193 bullets aren't any cheaper (at Widner's).
Link Posted: 2/2/2011 4:02:12 PM EDT
Thanks I was wondering about the LC and you are right they are more expensive. Widners and Mid South seem to have the best price on Hornady with Mid South winning because they ahve them in stock
