Colt M1991A1. The night sights that I am aware of for 1911's require the use of a milling machine to cut appropriate dovetails and install. Probably would be a good idea to use a gunsmith for this. JarheadGunner.

Have you shot any of them? After my last purchase (a Colt CCO), I don't purchase before I shoot if I can avoid it.
FWIW, a friend of mine has a couple of Kimbers, and loves them. Accurate and nice looking. Ed |

My last 2 experiences with Springfield pistols have ben VERY VERY Bad. I bought a new loaded compact and the thing jammed every mag. I tried all kinds of ammo and still the same effect. You couldn't give me a Springfield pistol. BTW, Squib I haven't shoot any of them just looked at touuched.

For a 1911 model, and money wasn't the driving force but quality, I'd go with a Wilson CQB. If you go with a Kimber, get an all steel model. If I had to go with your list I'd take the Tac. I have one, and like it a lot. It's not my carry gun, but the ability to buy a B&T suppressor if legal in your state makes it a lot of fun. For carry a compact Wilson is my choice. I'd say that I do like the older full size Colts, but I would end up having a trigger job done and sights. I can get all the extras stock on a Wilson. And to really get you confused, check out the HK USP compact for carry. With night sights they run about $650 if you shop around.

I have an HK Tactical and love it. It's a quality handgun. Never regretted paying the extra cash for it.

Larry, I don't want to spend $1500 on a CQB, but would like to. I've owned the USP FS in .40 and liked it, but didn't love it. I didn't find that it was as accurate as a Sig. I was told the HK .45 are very accurate and good guns. Larry, what did you have to give for the Supressor and did you have to but a tax stamp? I would like all of your insight on this model (HK Tac) if you would. I would greatly appreciate the help.

Buy a Ruger P-90, and affix adj. sights if desired. Bulletproof. Only if you're not wedded to the 1911 config. |

Because: In a World of Compromise, Some Don't  I have a fullsize USP in .45. I think its great. You have two more shots than a 1911. You cannot conceal a USP. Not even the compact, I've tried. They strip down real simple and clean up easily. They are also accurate. My $.02 |

The B&T can retails for $850, and you would need to pay the tax stamp. For more info and lots of stuff on the HK go to hkpro.com. The Sig is a nice gun, but if you are used to carrying cocked and locked, Sigs take some getting used to. A good alternative to the other 1911s at a good price is the Wilson KZ45. As thin as a 1911 with 10 round capacity. You can usually find one in the 1000 range. And they have both a full size and compact that holds 9. I know everyone has their favorite 1911, Colt, Springfield, STI, but I like Wilsons. My second choice would be the HK. I have never seen an unhappy HK owner.

I concur. I don't have a .45 yet, but, the Ruger P90 is TOUGH. I read somewhere once that at a gun range, of all the rental guns in .45, the Ruger P90 was the only one still working that had NOT been broken. All the others, including the Sig 220 (bow down in silence), had been broken and/or fixed. Sometimes, I wish I had a .45 in the 1911 format and my choice would be the KAHR/Auto Ordnance/Thompson version. My True Love .45 would be the Beretta Cougar 8045 F. |

Out of those choices, I would go with the H&K. Just curious, but it sounds as if you already have a Sig P220? If so, you are going to have a hard time finding a pistol you like better. I know I have searched for other pistols after buying my Sig-Sauer, and as of yet, no other pistol has made the cut.
If you already have a P220, just save yourself some money and buy a P90 or P97 Ruger. The triggers aren't as good as those on a Sig, but they are accurate and reliable as can be. |

Of those on your list I'd go with the HK.
Colt's quality control is better but they have a ways to go. I bought a XSE not long ago and the rear sight fell out after the first range session. Not terrible but annoying when you shell out that kind of cash. I sold it and just bought a Bushmaster. :-) From personal experience I'd also suggest you seriously consider the Sig 220. |

Handle, I don't have a P220, but do have a 225, 226 and 229. It is time for a switch. I LOVE Sig pistols, but its like eating the same meal everyday, it gets old. I've just about made my mind up on the purchase, I'm going to go with the Kimber Royal and order it with NS.

I'm not familiar with the Royal, but if it's a compact don't get the one you need the little tool to put into the side of the barrell for takedown. I had the CDP that was like this and it was a royal pain to field strip and even worse to put together. Otherwise I think you'll be very happy with a 1911. When you try those light triggers, and get used to carrying condition 1, cocked and locked, you may never go back to your Sigs. I have a P228, it's a nice shooter, but could not get used to the DA first shot and the SA second shot. With both the 1911s and HKs, you can carry condition one and shoot the same way all the time. I have a USP S/S Compact in .45acp & I have no problems. Did you try the Compact with the mag in, the one with the finger rest? I have large hands & it balances wonderfully for me. My. o2 |

Oh, yes you can! I had a Champion model that had all sorts of problems so I traded it. another guy in the gun club has a V-ported compact, again all sorts of problems. I do own a SA Govt model that runs perfectly though. Do you know that SA is the only mfgr that still uses a two-piece barrel? |

Standard night sights are simply dovetailed in, just like regular sights. The front sight is staked on so a bit of gunsmithing is indeed involved. As for .45s, I've owned most of them: Glock, Sig, H&K & Springfield Armory (two models). The BEST one, hands down, is the H&K. My .o2 |

From your list, the HK wins hands down !!! I have a fullsize and compact USP.45 and just love them. I have been looking at getting another 1911 and after alot of research, I will be getting a Springfield, either the loaded or the TRP in stainless.

Its final, I went with the Kimber Royal. I liked the way the Kimbers felt in my hand. I also ordered it with the Meprolight night sights, so I wouldn't have to tinker with it later. The gun cost me $785 out the door and should be in within the next 7 days. This was a tough decsion!

Guys have been concealing 1911s for years using this or that rig. I'm sure there's a way for you to get the full sized USP for carry. Even a fanny pack could work for that sized gun, IMO. |

I have a HK USP 45 tactical on order. That was what I WAS going to recommend. I'm glad to see that you were able to make a decision. It appears that all the handguns on your list were good ones, so I'm sure that you won't be disappointed in your choice. |
