At a new shop I visited the owner had a springfield garand converted by the navy to .308 and about %70 finish and excelent wood. Serial number in the 3 million. Whats it worth? He was asking $699

thanks

Some of those were converted with a chamber device......you have to check that....if the barrel is a 308....it`s better...either way...you can get a garand for 400-500 in the shops.....I`m not a garand expert..but if you can get it for 500...I think you would be doing good.....if there is something more to a actual navy conversion...I`m not sure......I passed on a "tanker" garand in 308 a couple years ago...mostly because I don`t trust the aftermarket boys.......there are some serious garand guys here...so keep posting.....

Check the barrel,
If it's marked with the part number 11686514 or 110104573

It's an as made 308 barrel.

If the barrel is WRA, Marlin, SA H&R,LMR  or is WW2 D35448 or post war with 30;06  6535448 part # and stamped H & R 7.62 than it has the chamber bushing insert.
If you could get them down under 600 $ it would be a good deal either way

Depends on which navy!

There were several thousand Pakistani Navy 7.62mm M1 (Garand) Rifles sold in the US a couple of years ago.  Like the US Navy models they were 7.62mm NATO and not .308 and will be marked with that caliber.

Any .308 marking is a sign of a commercial conversion.
