I really like the looks of Damascus blades but don't have any experience with them.

General thoughts on it?

Care?

Sharpening?

Thanks

The very few Damascus blades I have are meant for decorative or ornamental purposes only (mainly due to cost) but depending on the maker, the major issue would be rust due to the type of carbon steel used. It is a gorgeous steel indeed and in my opinion, worth the expense.

You have to care for them like any other carbon knife.  A bit of oil every now and then.

The hardness of the metal means that they hold an edge better/longer.  They're also a bit harder to get a good edge on.
