I found an M1 carbine with a deep gloss blue job in decent but not great shape at the local funshop for $299 ( probably negotiable )  I forgot the brand.   It would just be a plinker or truck gun, what's a semi beater worth?

If it's a USGI rifle get it. If it's a clone I think I would pass. Alot of clones have been made but not many good copies. Good luck WarDawg

Most of the USGI's at our last show were in the $6-700 range.  Only cheap ones were the universals.

Probably a Universal brand. Pass on it, IMO.

I had a universal m1 carbine for awhile. Between cash and trade I had about $200.00 in it. Never had a problem with the firearm and it shot great out to 50 yards. Never tried it further than that. IMO it was worth every penny and a little more.

You might be the only one I know who liked theirs. I've never seen an Universal brand run right.

I only had about 500 rounds thru it but it ran great. No feed problems, no ejection problems etc. The only bad thing I can say about it was that it had no historical value. I would have sold that to my best friend in the world with no worries.

My Universal ran flawlessly even with 20 year old ammo.  I sold it for $300.  Perhaps I will get another one day.

The best place to sell a Universal is a gunshop on consignment or a fun show.

Noobs see the $700+ on USGI so $450 for your Universal  is a "deal"

Look for a USGI.  You will get one for $500 or so if you look hard.

Plainfield I believe was the brand.   Worthwhile or POS?

Plainfields are the very best of the civilian carbines, 100% interchangable with USGI.

If its in good shape, buy it.

I picked up a Rock Ola and an IBM folder in the EE for $550 and $600.
