Do I need this:

I want to replace my Springfield M1A basic wood stock with a Fred's USGI fiberglass stock.

Oh, I want to paint it some nice camo pattern -- what paint is best for this?

No and no.  Use a spent .45 ACP pistol cartridge case to act as a bolt roller greaser.  Stock removal is easy.  Cycle the bolt, engage the trigger.  Use the tip of a cartridge to pull the trigger guard out of the stock.  Pull the trigger group out perpindicular to the stock.  Tap the stock butt on the deck to remove the barreled action.

I used Brownells Alumihyde (spelling?) with really good success.
