Quoted: Another vote for the LRM M169, for all the reasons cited above.
Here's a video clip on LRM's web site of me shooting short bursts through mine at Hernando. Yes, that's supersonic 115-grain Federal. And yes, it is ".22RF" quiet. |
Naw, its not 22RF quiet, but its a great product and I do think everyone should have one.
(Tony, dude, 9mm is no where in the same ballpark as 22RF) |
Geez! Pick, picky, picky ... what I mean by ".22RF quiet" is that the most common reaction I get from "suppressor naive" folks who hear it for the first time is, "That's a .22, right? You mean it's
not!?!?"
The M169 is
not as quiet as a suppressed .22 full-auto; it is, however, significantly more quiet than an unsuppressed .22 full-auto. IMHO, to my tired, worn-out ears (and to uneducated ones as well).
The porting bleeds supersonic velocities down to just eliminate the sonic crack, and the baffles do a good job on the firing noise. It meters at 129 dB, which ain't shabby, and (again in my humble opinion) the particular
quality of the remaining sound is similar to a rimfire.
Listen to the video clip above: While video is useless at accurately portraying true sound volume (quantity), I find it often is much more accurate in indicating true sound
quality, whether it be gunfire or voices.
As ever, YMMV -- and probably will.
