Whether in sandy envoronments, jungle, etc...what mag pouches does the military use for their rifle mags?  Seems like most around here prefer the open top models.  Personally, I want to know what works in harsh environments in regard to ease of use, protecting the mags, and keeping the mags secured.

Thanks

I ditched the issued pouches and used open top shingles.

Never had a problem with the issued ones. Just tucked the flaps behind the mags.

I cannot speak from any experience.  But I would think some sort of active retention would be preferred when rolling around and such no?  Don't the mags ever come loose or get sand/stones/etc. in them causing them to jam up?

Thanks

Sand gets in, but that's gonna happen anyways. I never had a problem with them falling out though.
