It's not that we put the weapon down for the sake of putting it down, it's a matter of knowing your rifle and it's limitations and weaknesses along with it's strengths. To be a fan of a particular rifle is one thing - to be such a fan that you won't believe any other rifle could be better in some aspect is wishful thinking. I've probably shot somewhere around half a million rounds through an M16 in the USMC, how many malfunctions you think I have seen? Too many to count. We spend quite a bit of time learning malfunction drills for the M16 because malfunctions are expected. While the AR is my favorite military style rifle, it is far from perfect.

What kinda malfuntion's? I have had one malfunction in about 1000 rounds, but it wasn't the gun it was the round. The bullet must not have been tight enough in the casing. So when I fired a round and the gas kicked it out, the next one was that one. The process jammed the bullet down in the casing and the round got stuck right below the entrance to the bore chamber "locking nut", between the bolt and the edge of the entrance to the bore chamber. That's the only thing I have had happen, but that was the cheap UMC round's from wal-mart.

I have yet to experience a malfunction that wasn't due to bad ammo in any factory-assembled AR15 or M16. The whole M16 jamming thing is way overblown.

Hi, I'm Schnert... and I'm a Frankengunaholic.
Yeah, I know what you're saying but: I've had numerous PROBLEMS with AR's. However, most of them can be attributed to the crappy parts I use to wrench up my frankenguns. However, I've been pleased with Colt, Bushmaster and Armalite products. Also, before the Army followed the USMC in the purchase of the PIP M16A2 weapon system - I was issued a Vietnam War vintage piece of crap that was about as reliable as a Raven .25. Weapons do wear out. So, it's good to know how to correct the problems when they arrive. AR's are great. But as with any mechanical device, they can be "quirky" at times. So don't get your panties in knot.[%l] |

I've had AR jam problems, but I attribute them to everything but the rifle. USA steel 40 rnd mags have weak springs, Wolf ammo blown primers, and operator error. I keep my bolt nicely clean. SHTF I'm in the dark holding the AR. No other rifle.
Whats a better rifle? |

You claim to just not have much firearms knowledge, but then try to sound like an expert! Oh, and bitching and whining because you can't get enough people to agree with you and your opinions gets old quick
To be honest with you, the AR15 is my favorite rifle, hands down. And I'd bank my life on it. And yes I enjoy a good discussion about it, even when I don't agree with everyone else. But somehow you come off sounding like an ass. xoxo Seamus |

Dude, who do you think he's talking to? You may not be a teenager with a excited new fascination with the AR-15/M-16, but you sure come across as one, with your fanatic desire to prove to everyone how the AR is the most sublime weapon ever invented - while at the same time demonstrating a lack of knowledge about many firearm-related topics. How many years have you been shooting? How many years did you serve in the military? How many automatic rifles do you own? Maybe the people who rack up a lot more experience and knowledge than you with automatic weapons are allowed their opinions here, and express them - regardless of whether they've seen the History Channel program about the M-16 and whether they think the AR is the best rifle every built. Just my opinion - and my M17S is a better rifle than my AR-15  |

Paul,
I love my ASA Frankinrifle. And even though I built it myself it is still very reliable and very, very accurate. However, when I am feeling lonely for the feeling of cold blue steel and wood I find myself reaching for the AK47 more often than the AR15. The AR is a great rifle but anyone who thinks it is the end all of rifles is a moron IMHO. For example, a AR15 in .223 can't go thru trees or cement walls all that well so a M1A/FAL/AR10 or even a good bolt rifle would be a better rifle in that situation. Of course I also like the handling characteristics (sp?) of my AK over my AR also....so take that for what it's worth. Jander100, Just a little bit advice if you want to really enjoy your stay here. Be open minded, have thick skin, don't insult the people you are trying to learn from, and most importantly read other peoples posts and learn from them instead of posting every little thought that comes into your mind. Oh, and learn to use the search and edit button. Just some friendly advice, people here are very willing to help but they expect you to help yourself also. Good luck. Sgtar15 |

I don't give a fuck what anyone think's about what I say, how fucking old I am, or how a have a facination with the AR, or any of that bullshit, I could kill a fuck with a string off of my Ibanez electric guitar, so I really don't give two shit's and a fuck! Now that aside, I know the AR15/M16/M4, "whatever", is not the most powerful gun or weapon there is", but for the size of it's bullet it shure pack's a punch. But hell that's what I like the weight.

We have to put them down SOME time. I can see eating or sleeping or maybe even having sex while carrying and AR-15, but it's hard to drive with one, they don't allow firearms at my workplace, and I sure wouldn't want to take one into the shower. (I did used to rinse the corrosive Chinese primer residue out of my SKS in the shower, but that's never been a problem with good .223 ammo).

I beg to differ with you on the quality of remington's UMC ammo, I believe it's about as good as any factory stuff out there. I've got about 2500 rounds worth of experience with them through 2 different rifles (one of which is a carbon-15, the other a bushy dissipator), enough to know it's a good bit more consistent than PMC, and almost, IMHO, as good as Q3131. Clean you rifle, and try it again, you might be surprised.

First off they are REAL M4s not M4orgerys, second that's what they are told/made/issued to use, they didn't pay for them so who cares if they get muddy, wet, finish removed, discolored from rust, chems, sweat, etc. as long as they shoot when the trigger gets pulled. Heck most of em will douche it with B12, run it through the shower then douche it with CLP and rock on. They don't have to pay someone to fix, repair, refinish, replace parts, or if its totally screwed , replace the whole gun. All it takes in turning it in and some 45B will fix or replace it. as far as your attitude and expertise .... well suffice to say .. chill and listen to what the old fogies have to say that have been dealing with the AR since its inception unto the armed service. They are not perfect, (no weapon is), they do screw-up, malfunction, and have short comings. You like yours (if you do indeed have one) that's great. but don't discourse with somebody that doesn't or has a problem with theirs. Not everyone likes Fords, or Chevy, or ...... whatever, but that's no reason to come unglued and disrespect their opinion. Plus you'll last a lot longer around here if you come down off the mountain and become a real person not an armchair wannabe. BTW .. Your spelling still sux ... miLLitary ??? civiLLian ???? |
