M4...
Strong. Lightweight. Less likely to be bent in a fall/warp than the lightweight ones. Better heat handling than thin lightweight barrels, but a nice tradeoff between the thin and the HB's. Oh, and most important.... Looks COOL! |

You forgot to mention the notch for mounting the M203.

Is that notch useable to attach a GI Bipod. the kind that clips on the barrel.

I suppose you could but heat that baby up with a 100 rounds and then prone out with that weight pushing on the barrel.... that's gonna hurt the accuracy somewhat. |

there is no point, except for those who think it looks cool. mounting a 203 on an M4's barrel is about the worst idea ever, little bit of full auto and the barrel can go limp (you better believe that degrades accuracy!)
horrible idea...fluting has got to be better |

The military has been attaching M203s onto M4s for 15 years without problems. They've been using them on "pencil barreled" M16A1s for 35 years. If it didn't work, I'm sure someone would have figured that out by now.
The primary advantage of the M4 barrel is LIGHT WEIGHT, which allows fast handling and decreases a GI's overall load. A secondary consideration is attachment of the 203. -Troy |
