Only rifle caliber that I know loads a .227 bullet is the 22 Savage High Power 5.6x52 R. Introduced by Savage Arms in 1912. The case is based on a 25-35 Winchester necked down to 22 caliber. Obsolete in the U.S. and Europe today. Some old rifles still exist.

It looks like I just wasted money on 2 boxes of bullets.

They will chamber and fire from an AR15 with a hot powder charge intended for 55 FMJ's, but the primers fall out on ejection.  The primers accumulate in the magazine well and your rifle will rattle when you shake it.

I saved another box of these .227 bullets for a 22 Newton (if I ever find or build one).

I did the same thing at a gun show about 1 month ago. 2 boxes of hornady for $20.00. A frend of mine tried to resize them in a lyman die (I think) they didn't do well. A lee sizer may work better, but for me it wasn't worth the $$

This ^ If you can't take the bullets back.  Get Lee's push through die.  Swaging down 0.003" is not going to do much if any damgage or change  to the bullet––-unlike 0.014" which on a caliber .308 to .294 in two stages will push lead out the nose and sometimes spread the nose of the jacket excentrically.  I've done the above to get an oversized 7x57 to shoot reasonably well.  Lee will make custom sizes of these push through dies.  Most any case lube will work to ease the sizing process.
