I use Bird Shot for HD.
Low recoil for the wife, and less muzzle flash.

I don't want to change the subject to 00 vs. birdshot discussion as birdshot is a clear and dangerous mistake.  you need to look at theboxotruth:

Federal 2 3/4" 00 magnumb buckshot.  The stuff with 12 BB's per shell.

I picked it because it patterned the best in my Western Field 550(read Mossy 500) w/18.5" barrel.

My ideal 2 3/4 oo buckshot would be one with Maximum velocity (1350+ FPS), Maximum number of pellets(12+), and thightest patern achieveable to allow for more precision, and highest reliability.  Problem is I don't know any mfgs that makes such shell.

Choices as I see them;
1. Hornady TAP 00 light mag: 1370fps, 8 Pellets, Tightest pattern in the market, High reliability.  Three out of Four isn't bad.
2. Nobel Law Enforcement 00 Buckshot: 1290fps, 12 Pellets, Pattern unknown, I don't know anything about its reliability
3. Everything else I have seen is in between the above two.

Any opinions?

Federal 12 pellet 00 buck.
ETA: Listen to the box o truth and the above posters, do not use birdshot.  Recoil and muzzle flash are not going to matter if the time comes you have to shoot someone in your house.  Your adrenaline will take care of that for you.

Have you used the Nobel Law Enforcement 00 buckshot? How is the reliability?  How does it pattern in your experience?  I am looking for a tight pattern in MOD chke.

It's not uncommon for the average cylinder bore shotgun to pattern buck at roughly 1 inch per yard of distance. With Federal Flight Control and other improved wad shells you can cut that down to patterns 1/2 to 1/3 that size.

Flight Control will usually throw all 9 pellets within about 20-25 inches at 50 yards.

Where in the hell does one get a hold of some of this Federal LE with FliteControl?  I can't seem to find it locally or even anywhere on-line.  I think ammoman has some, but I'm hesitant to buy from him...with everything that I've read here.

The pictures from the second link show the Federal is buffered and the TAP is not. I guess I'll go with the Federal.

i use 00 buck.

why one would use birdshot in their guage is beyond me.  how many here have a house where you can take a shot that is longer than 25yrds?  having a stray pellet is not an issue.  today's buckshot is a lot better than what was out there 5 years ago. try different brands and see what groups the best.

FYI.  Well I spoke to both Federal and GT Distributors.  According to FED all their LE13200/13300 buckshot ammo starting 2005 shipped with the Flight Control Wad.  Prior to that they shipped without.  All boxes W. Flight Control Wad has markings indicating it.

According to GT Distributors, the LE13200/13300 are new shipments and should have the Flight Control Wad.  He didn't have the LE13300 in stock as my order was even back ordered but he pulled a box of LE13200 and box indicated that it is Flight Control, so I am happy.
