You're correct, it is the M1 receiver. This new optic housing that bolts onto the M1 receiver is a tweaked copy of the A1 or A2 type smooth housing, meaning it can not slide onto the A2/USR. View Quote Got it. I think I misread/misinterpreted your original statement. I think now that you meant the actual optic tube from the 3X is too different to fit into this tweaked housing - which is a darn shame. It would still be awesome IMNSHO if Steyr would make something that looked like this, used the 3X (or higher) optics, and fit the M1.... Yeah, yeah, I know, pixie dust. |

View Quote man, that housing just brings out the beauty in the original AUG design. plus, it probably weighs less than M1 housing and it has usable BUIS built in. sell it separately with the option of a 3x tube and i'd buy an M1 real quick |

From a functional standpoint, how is the factory 1.5x scope? Eye relief decent?

What's the story with the orange AUG? It comes with marine flares, compass/strobe, knife? I wonder if they are serious, or if it's just a novelty display. Edit: They just posted it on facebook. They call it a survival kit. https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/fr/cp0/e15/q65/16142924_10154751030931259_8260350272820694497_n.jpg?efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9&oh=3ffe5c396d4b8d6f180748cd82f80b1b&oe=591E02FE View Quote Yes, because in an emergency you need to make sure everyone can see you rifle. |

And because the donut reticle is black and extremely thick, it works superbly with a weapons light- rather then washing out, it becomes much faster and easier to acquire. The 40th anniversary optic however is even better, as it includes a very small (1-2moa) dot in the center of the donut for precise aiming. This is the one thing I really wish the factory A3 M1 optic had. |

With shipping expected in a mo or two who is going to actually shoot their STG77?

Why would waiting longer change that? The only reason I want it is because it doesn't have rails all over the scope like its trying out for a next-gen video game. |

Seeing it's limited nature and the fact they have pretty much been sold out for a year now I was curious as to if anyone who is getting one was going to shoot theirs or just stuff it away as a collector. As for the SF-0 scope housing, it may not be perfect but it is a legit service variation. |
|
[#12]
If I were to get one (I'm not) i'd be torn on whether to shoot it or not. On one hand, it's limited edition and Steyr doesn't do much of that kind of stuff. And it's just cool. Which would make me not want to shoot it. But on the other hand, an old, all Austrian preban A1 is way more of an STG77 than this 40th. is. So that makes me want to shoot it. It would be tough to decide.
And Full Assault is right. Some people may not like the looks of the SF O/M1 upper receiver and it's not perfect. But the rails do serve a purpose. The SF and SF 0 optics bring a traditional AUG into this century. It's same/similar function to having a magnified scope/ACOG/etc with a red dot on top. |

I was expecting a SA STG77 military clone, it feels more like an a AUG with STG decal on the side if that makes any sense. |

I was let down immediately by the 40th gun. I'm sure I've said this before. But Steyr should have done a straight up A1 clone. That would have made sense for an STG77 tribute. But using an M1 receiver doesn't make sense for a STG77 tribute. Granted. Because of import laws, 922r, etc, stupid, etc and how they use parts to make the guns here now. The whole A1 receiver would probably have to be made here. And that's probably cost prohibitive. I hope they use green buttpads at least. Calling it an AUG 40th Anniversary gun makes sense. Not calling it an STG77 40th gun. But I guess that's just splitting hairs. |

I'm hoping Steyr or PJ gets some extra STG77 1.5x optics for sale.
It has a much better 'donut with dot' reticle that I found a lot more usable when I looked through it then the straight 'donut of death' used in the current M1 1.5x optic. That and it just looks cooler. |

I would like to have the optic for a std M1 but at the same time having just the optics available takes away from the STG77

The US side of Steyr has always been limited by the European side.
From what I understand, there's active work toward changing that limiting factor of always relying on Austria. I would hope that when there isn't the reliance on a foreign entity, that prices drop on domestic products. Back to the STG77 though, they should be out sooner rather than later. Anyone want to bet against me that the STG77's are out before the MDR??? |
|
[#35]
I think we'll see the Bren 2 (806), atrax or fs2000's back on the market before the MDR gains any ground/trust. I think it has chute problems( among others) and tubolax isn't helping. i can think of only one person that would take that bet.

The list price for the STG77 is reported to be $2649. Hopefully we will see them hit the street for a bit less. Waiting for the scopes from Austria...
