9mm/223 prices seem to be heading down. 199 for 223 , steel of course and lots of 9mm in the 175 range for 1k.  but it seems that components and such are heading up.  seems like making blasting 223 is not even worth it now .

Well that's because everybody has to dump all the ammo they stockpiled in case Hillary won the election, and then they were going to sell at inflated prices.

With everybody freaking out, and the last shortage, everybody got used to  Paying higher reloading component prices. Now that the panic is over, everybody's used to paying exorbitant prices, they're just going to try to get as much as they can.

Im looking right now and not seeing anything.  Lots of out of stock.  This was a Xmas sale.  This is not the new norm.  Those that cashed in on a good deal, good for you.

I still reload for about 17 cents a round with 55gr FMJ's and my ammo shoots significantly better than anything your buying at 20 cents a round.  When I get to about 30 cents a round Im shooting 68gr BTHPs, which is far better than anything anyone is buying at that price.

This is what I figure is happening, also.

I'm sure there must be a glut of scary black rifles ready to be marked down for the same reason

I haven't seen any rise in component prices anywhere I normally look. They are the same as they have been, even stuff ''on sale'' is still at the same sale prices.

One well known reloading supplier sends me emails every week with the same stuff on sale at the same price. When will they learn that if it isn't selling at that price and they have to keep advertising it, maybe the price is too high ?

Haven't the underlying commodities (lead, copper, etc) been dropping in price?

I believe so, but I remember hearing about a "copper shortage" in China earlier this year.  I don't guess it affected anything here though.

I do know for sure that 300wsm cases are made out of solid gold instead of brass.

I have to disagree.

As far as making 223, Hornady 55gr FMJ bullets are the cheapest they've been in several years.  The last box of 6K I bought 2 months ago was $50 less than a box in 2012.

Powder and primers seem to be holding at their already high prices, but I expect them to come down.

Metals are up sharply following the election.

There is a very positive attitude toward domestic manufacturing and economic expansion in general for a variety of reasons.

Components, and thus loaded ammo will probably rise in price. I don't think commodity prices have hit the retail market yet.

I just read an article that stated that American gun owners purchased 17,850 tons of imported ammo in the last year, and there were 24,767,514 NICs background checks between Jan 1 to Nov 30 of this year. This would make for an extremely competitive market, which would drive prices down. I see I'm behind the curve, so I'll go for a big finish this month to do my part. My local Scheels has really stepped up their game and is for all intents and purposes fully stocked with ammo and reloading components for the first time I can remember in years.

I joined the party late in the game- mid 2013 so my views are through that lens.

When I first started reloading, when I could get CCI-500 SPP, they were $22.50-24.50/k. Then they went up to low $30s. Now it seems they are down to $27-28. I am now seeing some pistol powder for high teens when before $25/lb was a steal.

The fact that it is available is a win.

The fact that I can get an 8lb keg of something for $125-135 not counting shipping and hazmat is a success. Do I think we will go back to the "bygone era" so many refer to when pulldown powder was $10/lb? Heck no. We also aren't going back to when milk was $.89/gal and $35,000/year was a lot.

I would imagine component prices to always lag ammo. Fewer players, us consumers don't buy as often. Just like when the panic happened, first it was ammo, then components to be gone.

I just picked up a 1000 bullets from Rocky Mountain for $82 bucks, what is sad, is I just pulled out my last 1000 primer brick for large rifle and the price on it was $4.99 from Bi Mart many years ago!
