Ok folks, I am looking at a what I believe to be a late war P38 manufacture code svw (mauser) It has stamped steel grip panels and matching numbers.
Can anyone tell me if I am right in these assumptions? Can anyone refer me to a good website where I can look all this data up?
Thanks :)

You do have a late war Mauser produced P-38.
Mauser started using the "SVW" code in January 1945.
The steel grips are also an indicator of a late war gun.

To narrow it down, check for a letter code after the serial number.  No letter means it was in the year's first 9999 guns, an "a" indicates the second 9999 guns, "b" the third, etc.

If the gun has an odd "rounded Star" mark on it, it's one of the "Gray Ghost" P-38's assembled at Mauser by the French just after the war.  These French assembled guns still used the Nazi proof marks.
