I just bought a 1903 Springfield Rifle serial number is in the 53K range. The serial number range dates it’s manufacture to 1913. It looks like it was re-barrel in WWII with a Sedgley Company barrel dated 12-43 with a circle S. It is also marked USMC. The stock is cut out in front of the bolt handle for a Lyman 48 Peep sight which is not there. The receiver is drilled and tapped for the Lyman Peep Sight.

This came from an Estate of a retired Marine. Rifle was a bring back and had the peep sight on it when it was brought home. The family has no idea why the sight was removed. It does not have a stacking swivel and needs a butt plate.

What is the value range for this 1903 Springfield Rifle.

I will post pictures when I can.

check for a bent barrel.  A large amount of USMC marked Sedgley barrels were scrapped by bending in a press and numerous ones were salvaged and straigtened.

Also the bring back story is unlikely as it would not have been overseas with a target sight,  More likely is it was purchased as surplus through the NRA, the DCM, or even the CMP.

The drill and tap job on the reciever will likely devalue your specimen, unmolested probably $600.  Especially without that sight installed.  At least with it on the rifle you have the functioning sights filling the holes and can call it a vintage target rifle.   Also your stock releived for sight mount clearance which really cuts the value down.  I passed on a similar Smith Corona that was modified like yours and was for sale for $500 without the target sight.  Otherwise it was in good shape.

Without pics I'd toss a guess out there, $350-450.

Does the rifle have a Hatcher Hole?

Where is it marked USMC?  There was a parts contractor that marked their parts USMC, so location is important.

Hard without pics...but a butchered low number is only worth $300 if its in very good condition.

his post says the barrel, typical sedgley mark, (looks like the post was edited)

usmc is for united show manu company,
iirc they made some bolt bodies,

and the value is basically the sum of the parts, $300ish sounds right in this part of the woods
