I own a sig 226 that came with a satin type coating on it. It is easy to clean and looks great. I also own a NIB sig 228 I bought in 1995. I may be getting a CCW and was thinking of using this gun as a carry gun. I have three 13 rd mags for it. What type of coat should I get on it? I do not like the blue. I thing a firm in AZ did my 226. Any suggestions and cost. Thanks. Ralph

What's wrong with the original (new) factory finish (K-Kote or Nitron?)? Recoating a new firearm that's going to be a CCW weapon is a waste of money. I'd wait until it starts to wear through significantly.
Now, after 40,000 rounds and ten years on my P226, I had Mac's Shootin' Iron Restorations put GunKote on it and it looks NEW. Not the toughest finish, and it wears through at the rail contact points, but it only ran my $80 with four mags refinished, too.

If you want it to actually LAST longer, hard chrome it. Sure, you will look like a pimp, but the gun will wear well.
