I just slapped together my first AR!! I got a RRA lower at a gunshow a month ago or so, and ordered a PCR rifle kit from Oly. Assembly of the lower wasn't too difficult... only the selector gave me a little problem, and I need a roll pin punch to finish getting in the bolt catch pin in all the way, but it's all together, and it all works! The Oly upper and parts look great! It matches up to my lower very tightly... no rattle AT ALL! I'm STOKED!! I just need to pick up a couple mags and some ammo and head to the range!

Any tips/hints cautions or pointers are welcome!

Keep the carrier well lubed, that's all I can offer. You've already cleared the tough hurdle and got it assembled. How 'bout a picture now?

I'm workin on the picture... Gotta get a flash card reader from my friend cuz my cam don't have drivers for XP!

sos yas know, it's a 20inch A2 upper, standard A2 buttstock. Pretty plain-jane, but I mostly got it so I can compete in Highpower Rifle and service rifle matches. SHTF is a smaller concern, but I'll try to keep about half a case and some good mags on hand!

Pictures will be coming soon!

it sounds like fun and all. But why do guys buy parts and make ARs? Why don't you just by em? Is it cheaper?

The primary motivation in putting it together myself is to save $$

I got the lower (stripped) for $129, the kit for everything else was $470...

just over $600 for a complete rifle. How much can you buy one for? probably at least $100 if not 2-300 more.
