Anybody get one from this new batch?  Saw some post on the Aim forum that said the wood was in rough shape...even the hand pickers... just curious.  Thank you

I just got this Thursday and it is one of the hand picked ones I think it is in pretty good shape.

I'll post pics of my hand pick (also received on Thursday) later today. The wood on it is not near as nice as the wood on yours.

Pics added:

Poor picture but it's dark wood.

Crack in center of stock above lower band

Name carved in hand guard behind rear sight

Chunk of wood missing from stock below lower band

Carving in side of hand guard

My 1942 "B" M39 for comparison.  This rifle was advertised as good to very good from SOG and is a hand pick.  The Mauser was advertised as very good+ to excellent from AIM and is a hand pick.

aw man, huge difference in them vz.24s.  i know some people like names, etc.. carved, but wouldn't expect that on a hand picker from aim.  I'll post when mine gets here wednesday.....

Nice M39.  Thanks for making me buy another rifle.

If I was expecting a good to very good rifle I wouldn't mind the carvings and damage so much.  I mean it's really not that big a deal except cosmetically.   The metal is pretty good and the bore is a little dark but has strong rifling.  I guess it's just not what I expected for the grade that was advertised. I would be thrilled if mine looked like oldschool63's.  It's not worth the hassle of sending it back though so I'll keep it and shoot it.  I read that if I put it in a box with kitty litter and a black bag on the outside that it will draw out the grease and oil so I might try that to at least lighten up the stock.

And thanks for all the compliments on the M39.  I'm very happy with that rifle and it's been going to the range alot.  I bought it within the last 2 months and SOG still lists them.  They were actually pushing them a couple weeks ago and called to offer me a good deal on a second one.

ETA:  Dang oldschool63 thats a very nice M39 you've got too.

The best way to find C&Rs on SOG's site is to go to the bottom of the homepage and click on "search terms".  On the next screen click on "C&R" and that "should" list all their C&R items.

These links should get you started.

So what does Finnish rifle have to do w/ a VZ24? I like the character. Mine came from samco a few years ago. Walnut stock post war w/ German marks still intact. She is about to become a serious shooter.
Scope and rings are original, bases are coming from Austria. It goes to Pa. to be fitted.

Here's my vz from AIM, it was a HP, arrived last Thursday, as well as one of the 91/30s I picked up from AIM in May.

Very nice overall, but the barrel is pretty frosted and has some pitting. Had some black paint poorly covering some wear which came of easily. I added a few coats of BLO after a soap and water scrub of the stock.

First time out shot around 16" high at 100yds with Romainian surplus, in about a 6" 10 round group. I'm considering adding a mojo peep sight ...

Thanks for the links and photos.  Sounds like this batch of vz.24s might not be the best thing going?  BBT should be here in about 36 hrs

Here is my vz.24 from AIM.  Very happy

Anyone know anything about these markings?  Looks like it had the czech lion's crest?  It is actually pretty visible...not so ground off

does your vz.24 bolt feel smooth, but chunky when operated?  I know that isn't a good description, but it isn't like glass...it is smooth if i use force, but if I go slow, it isn't so smooth... this normal?  thank you

Mine was not 'glass' smooth, but after a complete bolt dissasembly and cleaning/oiling/greasing, it's pretty damned slick. Of course, my only other bolt guns are the Mosins, so just about anything would be an improvement in the smoothness department.

It's probably been listed a few zillion times, but surplusrifle.com has some dissasembly how-to guides. http://www.surplusrifle.com/brnovz24/index.asp

Thank you.  I should be more specific.  Just looking to see if anyone has any pointers on the markings on my vz24.  My son says that is the czech lion crest.

Also, does century arms rebuild these rifles or they just clean them off.  Guess they can't mess with them too much or they'd lose C&R status.

I am addicted.  Looking at yugo mausers from classic arms.  So excited.

Yes, that is the Czech Lion crest. Also, I believe these rifles are Russian refurbs, which may explain why they're not quite as smooth as some other 24s. Kind of like the RC K98s, I think the finish is a little thick in spots on some of them (I have a byf 43, for example, that's pretty gritty in the action).

Nice lookin' Mausers, guys!
