shot them a bunch, neat gun for the price.  The old ones had threaded muzzles and could be fitted with a can but the new ones are not threaded.   I liked it better than my ruger 77/22 but not as much as a French .22 i had as a kid.

Very nice!  I've been looking at getting one also, but I was hoping for a blonde stock...

I've had a Toz-78 now for almost 3 years and I love it, planning on buying another one soon just like it.

It used to look like that, I removed the sights, put a scope on it and got the barrel threaded for a can. I've changed the color of the stock to OD.

I've put somewhere over 3000rnds through it and accuracy hasn't dropped at all.

Did I mention that I love it? hug.gif

It's an awesome rifle, for your or your kids.

Here is a AIM link that works (worked for me at least) http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/New__Russian_TULA_.22lr_Bolt_Action_Rifle.html

Edit to add: only downside is that the mags are plastic

Edit to add more: The semi-auto version is called Toz-99 www.tulatoz.ru/en/toz99.html

My daughter just got one of these T0Z-78's from AIM Surplus, and I'm trying to add a scope setup.  Got the rear sight pins drifted out and the rear sight removed OK.

New scope (Simmons 3-9x32) on Burris low mount rings fits the receiver fine, but the front sight is right in the middle of the field of view.

Any hints on how to remove that front sight assembly?  If it's threaded, which hand (RH or LH)?  I've already drifted out the front "pin" that indexes the front sight, but it does not want to budge with moderate tapping.

Any help will be appreciated.

It's not threaded (or at least wasn't on my toz) I had to use a normal hammer and use some force to remove it, the sight got a bit damaged but the barrel wasn't harmed in anyway.
When you've removed the front sight you will need to get the surface blued.

Left to right you can see where the thread protector is, note I had a gunsmith thread it once I had removed the front sight, then the semi-blued surface that was under the front sight and ofcourse the barrel itself.

and since I found a picture of it in it's current state http://www.simnet.is/blindbylur/rifle.jpg
