My new PTR91 had a really slippery metal handguard:

... so I picked up some black Rustoleum Truck Bed Liner:

Simple DIY solution. Hopefully it'll last.

A how-to would be sweet...and I've heard that stuff is heavy...

its not hard, strip the surface, i usually blast it as well so it holds good, for metal you can prime 1st, then spray on the bed liner, control your flow, the further away you hold the can the better your results will be. then apply youre final finish, i can post some pics later, i use it alot to texture grips, forends, etc

This stuff came in a can; went on like spray paint. You're looking at about 10 minutes of work from beginning to end.

The end result is surprisingly nice. Hopefully it'll last.

I've used the roll on type for a few stocks I have built. They are durable and very aggressive. Without gloves they do have a bit of a bite to them.

I have used this stuff many times on stocks.  it works great and is tough as hell as long as you did the prep work.

I decided to find out for myself. Found the paint at Home Depot. It has similar texture to 220 grit sandpaper. Maybe just a little bit finer. So far I'm liking it. The directions suggest waiting 72 hours before put it to use. In three days I'll give it the "toss it down the driveway test."

Taken after the first coat. I'll give it 2.
