Seems like it would have been a good idea if there were more of them sold or if they were cheaper. Think about the advantages, infinitely variable trigger pull and a 100% safety. Think if you had an infrared beam trigger you could literally have a 1 gram trigger pull, and it would still be safe because you just turn the gun off so it won't fire. Plus think of the training possibilities you could slap a laser in there that was activated by the current and fire off at an electronic target a thousand times. Or maybe you could have it hooked up to your head and it would just fire when it recognized the brain pattern you trained it to fire on.

Well OK, maybe not that last one. Yet.

They should of a used a small block Chevy motor instead of a little tiny weeny battery.

I suspect that one or the other might have been tolerable by the "gun" culture but not both.  The special ammo/primer pill is a lot harder to swallow though.  
A gun that has an electric solenoid activated trigger/firing pin wouldn't be that much of a deal, they are alreaqdy used somewhat in target rifles/pistols.

Ammo that costs more, is only loaded by 1 or 2 companies & is dificult to find out in the sticks......?

Even introducing new cartridges is fraught with peril.  Anybody remember 9mm Federal?  

 

Firearms technology has been, basically, stagnate for a hundred years. Like Rick said about 100% saftey, light trigger pulls this would seem to be one way to maybe skirt the "smart-gun" issue. And maybe too many shooters thought it was just that - the first small step to a "smart-gun."

For what it's worth, some day "smarts-guns" will be available, and popular. The consumer will want it. After all not everyone grows up anymore shooting, but there are plenty of people who still want a gun, but are not willing to practice saftey with it. Thus, reliable "smart-gun" technology will come from consumer demands, not govt. demands. And right now, the consumer isn't intrested in any new-fangled ideas.

Interesting failure, especially as it relates to the antis' silly idea of electronic controls on firearms, whether to be usable only by the legitimate owner or whatever.  DOESN'T WORK!

on a fancy target the tech might be ok

but on a hunting gun? no, electro gizmos are just one more thing to go wrong in the worst possible time.

the tech prolly isnt dead, just dormant for a while till someone else refines it and tries it in a new gun.

I wonder if it could be changed over to a regular bolt gun with minimal cost?

They legislatively mandate it, ie you can't sell it in the state unless it has blah, blah, blah..... Of course the LE people are exempted to gain their support for this BS. But as the old saying goes, "what's good for the gander, is also good for the good," because there are numerous LE people killed with their own guns.
