Mossberg 590A1 18.5in with Hogue 12in LOP stockset, S&J +2 extension, CDM MTC mount with Surefire P2X Fury. Limbsaver Airtech adds 1in to LOP and makes it just about perfect. 7.6lbs empty, as pictured with Vickers sling.

Damn I love a well built Mossy... I have just gotten into shotty's as of late. I plan on putting my new 20" barreled 8 shot Mossy 500A with the ATI grip/stock and Tac Star "side saddle" thru just as much shit as my Spikes and Colt AR-15's have been thru... I also want an auto shotty to go along with my pump. What are the specifics of yours as I want a clone. Imitation and flattery and all that jazz...

That's a nice rig.  That's the modified Mossberg that takes Saiga mags?

Damn that is a bad ass rig. Please tell me it allows a full load of the magazine tube to work in conjunction with detachable magazine for a 14+ shotty! You know, like the detachable magazine doesn't start cycling until all the shells in the tube magazine are already spent... Because if it does work like that then I HAVE to have one of these lil' bitches as weight doesn't bother me at 6'2" and 255lbs...

New here.

To put it brief, I'm a college student, own a remington 870, AK-47, and a Glock 30SF.. mainly because they have all proven to be the most durable time and time again. About to undergo a major makeover, since the parts are already ordered and enroute. Shotgun is barestock at the moment, but it's currently at the gunsmith getting a rail drill and tapped. Adding my EOTech 512, Magpul SGA stock, magpul mlok forend with mlok compatible afg. Also adding an extended tube and a mesa saddle on the left hand side of the weapon. Still trying to decide which sling would work best and which light combo (perhaps with pressure tap).

-Remington 870 Express (Pictured)
-EOTech 512
-Gunsmithing (Drill and Tap)
-Magpul MLOK AFG2 (Black)
-Magpul MLOK Forend (FDE)
-Magpul SGA Stock (FDE)
-Mesa saddle

I finished adding the 870's MOE parts. I like the MLOK system because of the low profile. I have a single point attachment and MS3 sling on the way. Im going to be adding a 3 shot extension to it as well and thinking of a CDM mount with a streamlight. Not sure if ill do the laser combo or just the light. Gets pricey. The SGA is awesome. The eotech is cheating so far. Faster acquisition than I thought and i love keeping both eyes open.

Found at a local gun store as police trade-ins.  Marked "870 Magnum" and dated to 1987.

They were a bit rough but each had a working albeit old Laser Products fore-end and one had the Speedfeed stock.  Got both for $496 OTD.  One was sold off at a slight profit so the cost for the one remaining was about $215.  Gave it a coat of GunKote and replaced the barrel with a slightly used take-off that I'd bought and thrown in a closet.  Added an LED bulb to the SureFire, a Vang Comp +1 extension, spring and follower, and a Proctor sling - these added about another $100 to the total.  I know many swear by sidesaddles but I'm liking how lean this is compared to a 590A1 I have with a saddle.

Approximate condition pre-GunKote:

Post-GunKote:

The remaining with sling and extension:

This started out as a Lakefield 400G. For you guys that don't know those are a mossberg 500 clone made in canada. They only came in 12 gauge and with 30" fixed full choked tubes and hardwood stocks. I found the complete action minus the forend and magazine tube in a bucked of scrap aluminum. The threaded part of the mag tube was sheared off at receiver level. I used a metal rod and jb welded it to the remnants of the tube. To remove it once set I put the rod in a vise and turned the receiver off of it. The finish on the receiver was pretty good, just a couple dings. The internals were gummed up with a sticky brown gunk. After soaking in mineral spirits I was surprised there was no rust. I fluxed the receiver and inspected it carefully, there was no damage mechanically to it. I got the parts from Brownells I needed and they had a deal on a high cap set with  the williams sights so I jumped on it. I threw on the choate pump handle and a mossberg factory butt. The old style tubes on the 400Gs had spacers rings and such like the older 500s. To take up the slack between the new tube I turned down a 3" piece of brass round stock to make it's outside diameter the same as the inside of the forend tube, and the inside diameter just .001 larger than the outside of the magazine tube. It's polished smooth inside on the contact surface and once set in place, there is no rattle or play, and that brass bushing aligns the assembly perfectly no matter how lop sided you put pressure on it. It also only leaves a nice brass residue on the parkerized tube. In about a thousand rounds since built it hasn't had any of the scuffing or finish wearing down to silver on the tube that most shotguns do.
I put on an extended steel safety on it as well.   I used an old trick to finish it. I pre heat the parts in the oven to 200, then fog on flat black enamel. It dries instantly and gives the same textured look as parkerizing. After drying I put it back in for 300 degrees for an hour. Doing that makes a big difference, the paint wears like a chemical finish and doesn't chip off, or gum anything up. It makes it pretty tough compared to spraying and air drying.
It's easily the slickest Mossberg I have ever used.
I was quite surprised what accuracy I could get at 100 yards with slugs out of this thing.

The birds I happened upon and got one on the ground and two on the wing with cheap winchester #5 target loads.

Id say its the best scrap yard find Ive ever encountered.

A few posts up you can see the pile of parts I started with. I literally pieced this together. Not sure that I'd do it again. But I'm pretty happy with the end product. Here it is.

Still wanting a light on it, but not sure what to go with yet, so that will come later.

What do you want to know?

It's an 870 tactical. I replaced the synthetic with new laminated wood. The finish is duplicolor flat black. It has a police extractor and an ati bayonet mount.

Thanks! I think so especially considering what it started out as when I first found it. I've got the heat shield back on it now, milled out to clear the rear sight and sit back against the receiver as it should. I'll see if I can get an updated picture later.

My newest project. Winchester model 97 made in 1904 that is being converted into a SBS. Previous owner hack sawed the barrel and put on a really shitty stock that I need to sand down and fit it to the reciever. Also has a lot of character with the bluing being gone and some nicks here and there. Should be a fun project.

I also have a stoeger coach gun imma cut down into a pistol/SBS project. I really can't wait for that to be done

Then I am hopefully going get me a 870 Police Magnum to cut down and maybe I can swing a Salvo 12 and put it on it with magpul furniture
