I have been looking at a lot of Tactical Tailor's gear this evening and I noticed that most of their pouches and holsters come with the MALICE clip attachments. I have never used these before, but it would appear these would offer a nearly universal fit on nearly everything.....MOLLE vests, web belts, duty belts, etc. Is this the case?

The reason I ask, they have a dandy little AK double mag pouch I'd love to use to fix up an AK rig with. For those of you who know me, you know how I love what I view as "modernized" LC II gear. That involves using a duty belt (more rigid than web belts, reducing the amount of twist and sag when under load), a Blackhawk H-harness that attaches via loops to the belt and a variety of belt mounted pouches. I love the simplicity and cooler nature during hot weather, a trademark of the old ALICE gear, while also greatly appreciating the increased rigidity of the duty belt over the military web belts. It's also nice to get rid of those hook fasteners from the ALICE gear, which always seemed flimsy and cheap.

That's why I am bringing this up here. There are virtually ZERO quality options for belt mounted pouches for AK mags. This offering from Tactical Tailor looks super nice. If the MALICE clips will indeed attach these well to a duty type belt, then I definately will be ordering some of them. I assume they'd have to make for a more secure fit that trying to attach pouches to a belt using MOLLE straps like those that come on most pouches.

Any comments?

Yes, the MALICE clips are almost universal.  I say almost because they might be just a bit too big for your belt.  That could probably be fixed with a tight wire tie though.  They are fantastic  on pouches like Tactical Tailors, or modified Spec Ops (as in cutting the strap off) that have the MOLLE webbing as they can be made to fit either a belt or a MOLLE vest or belt.  Oh, the Spec Ops pouches can fit most belts pretty well too since they have extra loops so they'll fit better onto a belt.

Thanks for the info. I assume that you mean the clips might be a bit longer than the belt is wide? If so, I can probably deal with that. The duty belts are a bit thicker than ordinary web belts. So this could help make for a more tight fit. But if the pouches still end up being a bit loose, I could always find a way to cinch them down tight to the belt. But it may not be a problem anyway. I have some old USGI M-14 pouches here somewhere that probably have a 3" belt loop, yet I didn't mind how they fit on a 2.25" belt. They would move up and down a little on the blt if empty, but there still wasnt much side to side or up and down movement when a loaded mag was in place. Of course there were lots of other pouches on that belt too. So that also helped keep things in place.

I guess to be on the safe side, I should just pick up one of those pouches with the MALICE clips the next time I order something and try it out on my belts. If it will fit properly or if I can modify it to fit without a ton of trouble, I can always go ahead and stock up at that point.

The 'short' malice have two settings on them and will work with belts. I have a thread that is now on page 3 called malice help you might want to check out also.

I am a self professed tactical Tailor junkie...

I also have a duty belt and a TT padded belt. If you must go with a duty belt use the shorter straps they will fit much nicer but you will still have a little bit of slop..

I would recommend trying the TT padded belt though, it's a nice belt and very versatile and can be had in a variety of colors

In addition to the normal usage attaching pouches to various carriers, I have used them for:

Attaching a hydration pouch to the waist belt of my chest rig:

Attaching my rigged up kydex holster to my MOLLE belt:

And as I discovered when preparing for yesterday's bike ride, they even work for attaching pouches to the handlebars of my bike.  Using a long clip rigged through 3 rows of webbing on teh back of the pouch (kind like the hydration pouch pic above) left exactly enough clip to wrap wround my handlbars and give me place to stow my cell phone, wallet, car keys, etc.

Funny you should mention that.  Last night I was fooling with my handlebar-mounted headlight and realized that it mounts to the bracket with what appears to be a Weaver or Picatinney rail.  Cars would definitely see me if I can mount my M9xx lights on there!

P.S. we're going to need to see pics of your tactical bike.
