My mom and dad asked me what I wanted for my b-day and I told em about 1000 rds. of .45  and a tactical vest.. now I'm looking for a vest not to look cool or any of that shit.. but in black and all just to keep a place for my mags whilst shooting..

I've looked at some vests from Blackhawk and thier EOD one looks good... I don't need a holster on it cuz ima have my thigh rig on and all  But a vest that will hold 30 rounders .223 and one or two HK .45 mags

anyone got any suggestions?

OK I'm all for the vest thing, except I've found out (the hard way) that you may want to look into drop leg pouches (especially you Vermilion, since you already have a drop leg holster).  Vests get REALLY hot.  A Drop leg Holster on one leg and a drop leg mag pouch on the other LOOKS really hot.

If you are really set on a vest:

I just ordered one of these

Untill I get it I can't give you any recommendations on it but I haven't really heard anything bad about BlackHawk.

I use the External Assualt Shell (www.secondchance.com/prod.asp?action=prod&prodID=20). The picture doesn't do it justice. This is a body armor carrier with external pockets for M16 mags & other equipment. It's fairly comfortable, and runs about $85.00 (without the armor).

We're mandated by policy to wear body armor at work in the firearms division (while on the range). So we use these. You can really load up the pockets and stuff....

These are nice. I had one but being a lefty the shoulder pocket was annoying. So I had a friend make me a copy of this one with the shoulder pouch removed and also a bit smaller since I'm no 280 pound 6'2" Navy SEAL.

Go HERE for excellent prices on Blackhawk gear.

I've also taken a liking to SOE Gear as of late. They have some cool rigs and available in some of the harder to find colors like tri-color desert, etc.

I got the blackhawk Omega Crossdraw vest with a dropdown for additional mags and I love the thing (It has a holster, which I know you said you didn't need, but it is damn cool)  Three M16 mags in the vest, holster, 4 pistol mags, and four more M16 mags in the drop-leg.  Plus two utilitiy pockets (though one is only big enough to hold my zippo :-), I use the other for two way radio).

I also got a backpack that quick clips to it, which is nice, but is really not big enough.

Anyone know if there if anyone makes a vest with the cross-draw with thumb-snaps.  I think that would be so much quicker.

Isn't Blackhawk stuff made in another country where Eagle is 100% USA?

I'm thinking of getting a Blade-tech holster.. with the plastic stuff on it.. but I kinda want it to be a fabris like the Omega drop holsters  made for like a SOCOM.. do you think my Match .45 will fit in it? blade tech drop holster is like 130 bucks and the omega one is like 55 bucks..

Blackhawk USED to make good stuff as an American company.  The current Blackhawk is out of Taiwan I believe.  They copy everything Eagle(USA) produces and market under a different name.  The quality ranges from ok to crap.
SOE is probably the best out there, but Eagle is top-notch as well.

SOE - Top notch stuff but pricey!Made for   HARDCORE users!
EAGLE - Same thing, but a little less expensive!
LONDON BRIDGE TRADING - Ditto about them also!
BLACKHAWK - Pre-Import stuff is great! You can find it if you look around, especially smaller retailers and shops. The new stuff is garbage, period.
There are plenty of smaller custom-type shops that do great work but, they will be up there in price and in wait. They will, how ever, tailor everything to your specs. Most of the big makers are swamped with Gov't contracts for our folks going overseas, etc. etc. so the wait for some gear might be long.

I got a Eagle large 3-day assault pack for my B-day from my girlfriend.  It is tough as nails.  Extrememly heavy duty zipper and stitching.

I don't know whether I want an Eagle, SOE, or the standard Army vest.  Not a whole lot of places you can try them on!
