I have been traveling down the path of
research to buy a PVS-14 soon. I have
found that I like the features in the TW
LTP's.

My question is can you wear ear pro
under the helmet? I am currently
running Howard Leights.

Thanks!

John

Yes, and you have several options for hearing protection configuration. While I have never used an LTP, I've used the TW exfil ballistic before, which seems to be the same profile as the LTP. Plenty of space for ear pro.

You can run standard ear pro under helmets by making a "channel" or space for the headband in the pads, and wearing the headband style underneath the helmet. This is not the preferred option, and not the most comfortable, but it can work in a pinch. I wouldn't want to use this option if possible, especially for long periods of time.

Another option is using the ear pro/headset adaptor mounts that attach to the helmet rails and suspend the ear pro over each ear. I've used helmets with this option, and it is very nice in regards to comfort and stability. Peltor mounts are common, Howard Leights can be modded for this option; it has been done before. I like this option if the ear pro is going to stay with the one helmet all the time - it is not really one where you can constantly be moving the ear pro from helmet to helmet or using the ear pro alone without the helmet.

My current setup is a set of neckband MSA sordins, which I wear underneath the helmet, without having the headband interference of standard ear pro. The MSA neckband muffs give me the option to use the ear pro alone, under my ballistic helmet, and under my bump helmet with ease. Several companies make neckband electronic ear pro.

One reason I like the HL's is that they
are so affordable. I have 4 pair scattered
in different groupings of my gear. They
also have great sound quality along with
great battery life. I wish HL would make
a neck band electronic version. It would
solve my problem with the LTP & boonie
hats.

I have a friend who is currently working
on adapting the HL's to the picatinney
mounts, so I will check with him on his
progress. He also spent some time &
money to trying the MSA's & Sordins,
etc, to find the HL's had better sound
quality.

I wouldn't mind dedicating a set of HL's
to the LTP with the wire mounts because
of their affordable price. If I can make it
work, I will be satisfied, but I also thought
I would enjoy the flexibility of being able to
remove the HL's while wearing the NV rig,
if desired.

I will try wearing them under the LTP first,
and move along from there.

Sorry to ramble.

Thanks for the input.

John

A little research clearly indicates this
to be true.

I will begin research for the next helmet.

Thanks for pointing this out!

John

Edit to add: It looks like it will be a large FAST.

I am leaning heavily towards the
Op Cor FAST bump.

Thanks again for all of the input.

Vic,
Do you have the Peltor Arc adapters
on your website?

I can't find them.

Thanks!

A friend of mine has a set of the
Peltor Arc adapters, and it seems
like they will work with the Howard
Leights. How close are the Unity's
to the Peltors?

MSRP?

Thanks!

Looks like the airsoft guys just stuff the peltor adapters into the HL's. Mileage may vary, I'd go for something with a better lockup personally. Fancy pellet guns don't generally cause permanent hearing damage if an earcup falls off. https://youtu.be/GCNbiBUCeBM

I went with peltor ARC rail adapters with a set of SARA ends to a MSA Sordin, behind the neck ear pro is also an option but I liked having everything out of the way.

4D Tactical Zero G pads and gel ear cups on the Sordins = pillow for my head.

ETA: good choice on the fuck TW.
