I shot my 8in .300blk with my Omega for the first time yesterday.

When I took the gun apart, I was shocked by how much gunk was inside the upper and lower. I knew suppressors were dirty but still. I shot ~300rds of Remington 220gr OTFB.

What is this gunk?

Damn
Unspent powder I believe. Definitely load-dependent

Yeah it definitely looks like powder to me, but I'm not that knowledgeable.

Gun ran fine the entire time.

I believe Gemtech subs did/do the same thing

Is it something I need to be worried about? Other than just cleaning more frequently?

It's the ammo. A lot of factory subs I've noticed leave unburnt blown back into the receiver. PWS especially. Nothing to worry about but it's a pain to clean as gets down into the lower and receiver extension. Also as a lefty bits of unburnt powder blast back in my face and it's like being sandblasted.

I've adjusted my hand load so it's minimal.

You might want to read My Range Report from 2009.  Not only does the receiver get back-blast but residual is also found on the brass casings.

All this means is that you're going to have to clean your rifle more thoroughly from now on.

Gemtech is super dirty but I love the ammo.

I believe it's a "filler" of some kind.

It's actually the noise.  Compressed into little solid bits of matter.  That's how Suppressors work.

+1

It could be inert filler or a flash suppressant.

Thanks.

And yes, my spent casings were basically black.

S&B 200 fmj subs do the same thing but it leaves yellow shit behind which is filler. I've almost ran through all of them I have, my reloads do not make a mess like a lot of factory ammo does. I plan to only use reloads for subs mainly because I don't have to clean the lower and they run about $0.19 per round.
