Get an overbored can like a Hybrid or Wolverine to reduce the back pressure to the shooter. It will also help if there is any misalignment with the thread adapter. An adjustable gas plug is good too but it is not as effective as they are on an AR.

from my research owning a full size M1A, it seems the SOCOM is the easiest model to suppress. check out smith enterprise

Buddy got a baffle strike first shot out of his M1A socom. Luckily his can was repaired for free through silencerco. Be careful with alignment after putting on the barrel extension. It threw his off just enough.
