Morning everyone,

I am trying to get the best bang for my buck and am looking at getting a 7.62 can for my larger rifles but also using it on my ar's chambered in 556.
According to AAc's website "The 762-SDN-6 also functions as a superb multi-caliber suppressor for multiple hosts, providing excellent performance on 7.62 NATO, 300 AAC, 6.8 SPC, 6.5, and 5.56mm NATO"

So I know that it is possible to do this but my questions are as follows. How well does it suppress the 556 round? Is it quiet enough to not use hearing protection? Is there any downfalls to using it on 556? How much does it effect bullet shift?

This would be my first rifle can so please pardon my ignorance.

Yes. It will work. It will be hearing safe (outside?)

At least mine was. (AAC 762SD on a 20" AR w/ XM193) ETA: 19 oz on the end of a SIG556 is a nogo. I wouldn't consider it hearing safe as the shooter but maybe as an observer. (gas venting from the holes in the gas tube)

Using a GemTech SandStorm on several 6.8 and 5.56 rifles - just get an adapter from the Silencer Store for like $35.

I ordered a Trek as well, so eventually I can compare them.

I have a SAS M-47 223 can, and my brother in law has a SAS 30 cal can. We have identical Sun Devil 20" 223s. His is actually a little quieter than mine! This only difference is his is 2" longer. I also have a SAS Titanium 338 can for my 338 Lapua magnum. All 3 are hearing safe for everything we have shot through em. You will probably see a shift in point of impact. Most calibers amongst the three cans shift down 2" at 100 yards.

The SAS 30 cal can is rated for any 30 cal magnum, and of course any caliber below 30. He uses his for 7WSM, 308 Winchester, 243, and two 223s. At less than $500 for the stainless model IMO it is the best bang for the buck. Also, if you are worried that SAS may give something up in quality, reliability, sound, ect, don't. They are actually Accuracy International America's suppressor of choice.

The down side? He is a one man shop, and takes forever on his form 3's. If I were to do it over again, I'd find one of his stocking dealers.

Take care.

Very cool. So I have experience with AAC but am curious what the "best" can on the market is?

Best as in quietest, smallest, lightest, etc?

Thanks again for your time

I assume you are looking for someone else's opinion as I have already given you mine, but I'm going to requote myself:

"Also, if you are worried that SAS may give something up in quality, reliability, sound, ect, don't. They are actually Accuracy International America's suppressor of choice."

I know this is an AR web page, and so most are prolly don't really understand much about Accuracy International. In the precision shooting world an AI rifle is the tip top. It would be like Knights Armament, or POF putting their stamp of approval on a product. So for all the qualities you mentioned plus the fact that their price is the lowest on the market next to YHM they are hard to pass up.

Find someone with an SAS Arbitor, and shoot it next to any other can. It speaks for itsself.

I bought the SDN6 for use on my ARs.    Major Malfunction has tests on their website that compares them with other cans through the 556.

I don't have it yet, though, it just came through to my dealer so I can send off the form 4

Video I found (not mine):

Sorry I forgot to respond to your post.

The local dealer carries AAC and the other major brands. I am not sure if he can acquire SAS but I will ask.

Tim @ SAS can be very hard to get a hold of...Call Shaun at Sniper Company.  Shaun is a distributor for SAS.  Really good dude and knows his stuff.  I like the N-6 for multi cal use.  It is shorter than most .30 cal cans and makes a perfect 5.56 can when you have multi cal in mind.  It is just a smidge longer than the M4-2K and a bit heavier.  It is all inconel construction, so it is built to last. I shoot mine on a .308, .300Blackout, and 5.56.  It may even go on a 6mm bolt gun that I am building, but who knows.  I may try a Thunder Beast Arms or SAS can on that.

SF is coming out with a 762-Mini can from what I hear. 762 cans work great on 556 guns, just they normally weigh more and are longer.

ETA: 6" OAL so the same size as the 556K(-212)

I called the dealer today and he has an AAC 762sd down there for 850. That was right around what I was thinking it was going for.

If you do a little looking, you can find the new SDN-6 for not much more than that.

And find the 762-SD a little less than that online.

Pay for the can and give them the name of your local dealer for the transfer.  Wait for the Form 3 to come back for them to transfer to your dealer and then go in and do the Form 4 paperwork.  Chat with your local dealers to see how much they charge for suppressor transfers-mine was $50.

I bought through Silenced America and it was a great experience for a first time purchase.

I bought my 762-SD from Major Malfunction and with shipping plus dealer transfer it was cheaper than $850.

Also make sure that if it is an standard SD model it has the newer 51 tooth mount, not the older 18 tooth mount.

why is the 51 tooth better? curious, as i'll be in the market for one soon and i like the inconel construction.

If it's local I would bet it's the SD.  When I was looking, the going rate around me locally was $850-$900 for the SD.

Well Im going to go with an AAC can I just dont know which one to get. Its either going to be the 762sd or the 762sdn-6

Im going to use it on my FAL and my ar's. Which can would better suit my needs?

The sd is cheaper. I can use the extra $$$ to buy adapters for my guns. It is also slightly quieter than the sdn6.

The sdn is shorter and is built to last longer than the sd.

What do  you guys think?

I took the "Buy once, cry once" school of thought on this one.  I just went down to my SOT doing the transfer yesterday and put the N6 on my 8" 300 BLK upper and knew I had made the right call.  That being said, I don't really think either one is going to be a horrible choice.

Also make sure that if it is an standard SD model it has the newer 51 tooth mount, not the older 18 tooth mount.

The 18 tooth mounts are spring tension and have been problematic. They dont work as well. The 51t mounts work better due to how the can engages the mount. 51t is much better.
