Since I already have the Gemtech Outback for my Walther P22, I'm thinking about buying a threaded barrel for a 10/22 I've had for years.  I'm shooting subsonic ammo in the pistol, and am wondering if it is needed in a suppressed 10/22 to get the best results.  Also, will the 10/22 cycle with subsonic ammo?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Yes, you have to for the 10/22 if you want it to shoot quietly.   I usually use Remington or CCI Subsonic, and I know some "standard velocity" ammo should work also.

In the P22, you should be able to shoot most any ammo (besides hyper velocity) and it should stay subsonic in the 3.4" barrel.

Thanks.  Will the subsonic cycle in a 10/22?

Mine will cycle them fine...  however, using a suppressor will dirty the action faster, so you might be more prone to stove pipes, etc.

CCI green tag is one of my favorite suppressed loads out of a rifle or pistol

how quiet you looking for? think the neighbors heard that or man that;s quiet out here?
sub's shoot ok but do have a tendency to malf ocasionally. i shoot fed bulk (brown bax) for shooting p-dogs in the field they work well.
IF i had to discharge my suppressed 10/22 in a more residential setting then i would shoot the rem or cci subs.

What kind of velocity do you get out of sub sonic and suppressed 22's.  My pellet gun works well in the backyard.

Just yesterday I stood two feet from a suppressed .22 (intergrated suppressor on Ruger bolt action) with supersonic ammo being fired.

It was no louder than a pellet rifle.

I wish silencers were legal in Michigan. The one I heard is owned by the State Department of Agriculture. Us mere mortals can't have mufflers on our guns yet.

Chamfer the rear of the bolt and it will work a whole lot better with subs. Mine will function with everything except CB's.

Or if you don't want to do it yourself Randy at CPC can do for you. He will also headspace the bolt and pin the firing pin. All this leads to a better running and more consistent/accurate 10/22.

+1
Just tested out the Remington Subs CCI green tag and some Winchester t22 with my 10/22 and SWR Warlock in the back yard.  the Remington subs were by far the quietest.  I was kinda surprised to see how loud the green tags wereeven though they are only 20 fps faster than the remington subs. just my 2 penny's worth

Mine cycles fine.

I recommend CCI Sub Hollow points.

They are very quiet, and hit noticeably harder than the Rem subs.
(Ok I can't really quantify this, but the impact is a more solid "THWACK" and I've had less stuff keep moving after the CCI hits)

Winchester Dynapoints is all I use in my 10/22 with a TAC65 suppressor.
Although the box doesn't say that they're subsonic, THEY ARE. It's quieter than my Red Ryder bb gun.
I hate Kmart but they're the only folks I know that stock them. about $30.00 for a 500 rnd brick.
They're also extremely accurate at 100 yards.
This video has a good close up and sound quality of my buddy shooting my tricked out 10/22 with Dynapoints

I like the CCI standards. Still has enough to cycle but stays subsonic.

Nice, thanks for posting that link.  That guy is only 25 minutes away from me.  I'll have to have him tune in my 10/22.
