Has anyone heard about the new garand that springfield builds?  Is it as good as one built fifty years ago?

I  picked one up in January. I haven`t gotten it to the range yet. It sure is an eye catcher though, and it appears well made.

they are good guns.
i would like to see a M1 with a forward mounted scout rail.

I'm on the waiting list for one... been waiting for about 2-3 months.

A local place had one for $799 when they first came out. It looked real nice. A bit high maybe, but from the looks of it but it looked new and probably worth it.

Are these an exact replica of the Real Thing?

Do they have those NM sights and all?

The commercial SA M1's are made with a new cast commercial receiver, new barrel, and new wood.  Most of the other parts are used-reconditioned USGI or USGI spec Dane or Iti parts.

These are completely parts interchangeable with all other original M1's out there.  

Re NM sights.  No. this is not a competition grade rifle.  It is supposed to be a duplicate of a service issue rifle.

Over all, I've heard good things about these in general quality, and they do have SA's warranty.  A bit pricey though.

For my money though, I'll spend half as much and get a genuine USGI rifle from the CMP.  I already own several CMP M1's and will buy more from the them as time goes on.

When will these run out? That is, how long more do I have to get into the action and qualify...

When asked this question, officials at CMP are rather vague in their response, both with regard to the actual number of M1's still in Army inventory, and with regard to how fast they are being sold off.

As near as I can tell, it would appear that they have enough of the USGI rifles to last another 3-4 years.  Please note that this estimate may be WAY off base as the info this opinion is based on was common BEFORE the CMP's massive public advertising campaign that began earlier this year.  I have no choice but to assume that they are now selling many more rifles than they used to and that a 3-4 year supply estimate may be vastly optimistic.

In any case, I'm buying up my collection of M1's as fast as I can allocate discretionary funds to the cause......  I'd advise you to do the same.  Once the supply is gone, it is GONE forever.  

CMP typically gives very little warning when they are running low on any particular item.  Generally speaking, when you hear that the CMP is running out of something, if you don't IMMEDIATELY (like the NEXT DAY!!) place an order for one or more, you miss the cut off entirely.  Your order gets returned to you unfilled.

If you are not already qualified to order on the day that CMP announces that the supply of M1's is running out, then I'm afraid that it is probably already too late for you to get qualified and place an order before the boat has sailed......

If you want some genuine USGI M1's right from US Army inventory, then my sage words of wisdom are to "do it now"...... before it is too late.

Swampy speaks the truth, when the CMP runs out many will be crying "why did'nt I do it" Cmp Garands are the best buy on the market, they are the real thing, not a reproduction, I ordered one on 6-25,(a S.A.) and as soon as it gets here I'll probably order another,(this time a H&R) I look at them as a peice of our country's history, God knows where they been, and how many G.I.'s carried it, Many people seem to somewhat put off by the requirements for purchase, A guy I work with wants one badly, but not badly enough to join a CMP affliated club, and shoot a match,(He wants to buy one for the same price as the CMP is selling them for) He'd rather buy from a someone else,(and I might add, probably get screwed, He is rather Bullheaded) All I can say is.. Get one while there is still a good supply, the day after they're all gone, the price will triple, and Never go down!!
