ok, i decided TODAY im going to put a scope on my Springfield M1A

yeah, thats how i do my christmas shopping too.

anyways, i need the stuff on there by sunday morning to sight it in, and leave for hunting thursday

a local shop has a Springfield 3rd Gen. scope mount ( like this )

http://www.islandtactical.com/browseproducts/Springfield-SCOPE-MOUNT-M1A-3RD-GEN.html

for $140 i think he said.

some people dont like these mounts...  but the scope will only be on the rifle 1-2 weeks a year anyways, so i dont need to be all super armchair commando SEAL sniper this weekend...

anyways, is it worth it at a last minutes notice one week a year scope mount ???

Thanks

I'd pass on that offer.  For $140 you can pick up an ARMS 18 or (not sure if they still have them) a Smith Enterprise $105 mount.  Both the ARMS and SEI mount will be MUCH better than the SAI mount in terms of construction, design and quality.  SAI mounts tend to be very high and the thumbscrews come loose meaning your zero may start to wander.

problem is, supply and demand....

i need it by SUNDAY, tomorrow is Friday, its my fault for putting it off for so long but whatever...

i cant get an ARMS mount here that quick.

its only going to be on the rifle for sight-in and hunting, thats it. after that it will be off until next deer hunting...

is it really THAT bad ?

Even if the 3rd gen mount works for your intended purpose, you are going to kick yourself in the ass when you see them as low as $50 shipped on the EE.

Also, why not call Smith tomorrow morning and ask if they can overnight the mount to you? The SA Gen 3 is around $150 with tax, right? Surely the smith @ $105 with overnight shipping will still come out cheaper.  The price from BlackJack Buffers if I wanted my Ultimak rail overnighted was only $24, and it's bigger than the Smith mount. And the Smith mount is MUCH better than the SA, and has a much better resale value.

biggerstick- you think they could get it to me, ordered on friday and have it guarrenteed on saturday ?

the other concern is, ordering the mounts, and rings, WITHOUT the scope in hand ( buying that friday or saturday ) and making sure i order the right ring height... low, medium, high....  will i want the 30MM rings?

tough choices

im going to call smith ASAP in the AM

thanks for pointing out the smith mount for me

ill probably be buying a 3-9X40

I'm not sure, but when you call Smith explain your situation adnd ask them abour rings and cheek pad. I'm sure they would be able to answer all your questions. If they can ship this morning, and will do it overnight, there should be no problem having it by Saturday. Good luck and happy hunting!

ok... so i ordered the Smith mount, and cheek rest. "overnight" delivery... hopefully ill get it tomorrow. $105+ tax + shipping

they didnt have the proper rings, so when the mount arrives ill go to Sportmans Warehouse and find the right height rings + scope, and if i dont need the cheek rest after that ill ship it back or sell it on the EE

now, i just have to pray they arrive tomorrow. ill be working... hopefully the UPS guy will see my note and leave them here

sportsmans warehouse hooked me up with a Luepold 3-9X20 VariX-1 and rings for @$240

i "sighted it in" today, and im not very happy. holds a VERY tight group, but, something must be wrong with the rings or mount, i have the windage cranked all the way to the left, and its still grouping 2-3" to the right...

i might turn the rings around, or buy new ones... one guy told me to "shim" the mount...

itll work for now, deer hunting this weekend, but after that ill make it perfect.
