They are reference numbers so when you take something off and put it back on you will put it back in the same spot so it rezeros.  Some have rails on the right, left, top and bottom and those would start with R1, L1, T1, not sure what the bottom ones start with, maybe a B?

I have an LMT MRP and the bottom rail is marked with the letter "B".

The picture above that shows "R" would correspond to a rail placed on the right side (in an English speaking country). Would "R" mean anything in German???

250 EURO was the price on the separate rail. Too pricey for me...

That is very expensive for what it is.
Is this 'Sports' handguard/rail aluminum?
If it is, I would think it is going to burn someone's hand

If I recall correctly those are single shot AUGs for they don't have a gas piston.

One has to manually charge the AUG after each round is fired.

Only way it's legal in a few Countries.

Ah bummer, and here I was thinking it looked like an A2 receiver which I personally MUCH prefer to the A3.

Sigh.

You will also note that with the rail installed it is not possible to access the gas plug.

It is called the Aug Z. A single shot manual loading version.

I've always wondered if the NZ version of the AUG Z was importable.

Hmmmm, looks a lot like a USR!  I'd take one just for the A2 receiver

I'm pretty sure that the Sport is UK legal and functions as a straight pull bolt action.

As far as I'm aware, the Sport version was never sold here. I've only seen them in Germany and maybe Austria, and I think those were semi-automatic.

This is the UK version. They typically have an A2 rail, but I replaced it with the SUSAT mount. It is called the Z SP (straight-pull, presumably).

Don't think so. The AUG Z is a semi auto.
Straight from Steyr's website;

Just curious, why do you like the A2 better? The A2 looks great, but the method of attaching the rail or optic leaves much to be desired IMO. If removed/replaced a few times, the interface wears and your rail/optic becomes loose. For this reason, I leave my A2 optic in place on my USR turned A2. It would have been better to attach the rail/optic similar to the way the A3 rail bolts into place. The one design aspect of the MSAR that really made sense to me was the way the rail/optics bolted to the receiver.

I like the function and look of the "original" style optic/carry handle - and if once in a blue moon I want a different optic I can swap the rail in.  I guess mine hasn't been replaced as many times as yours as it still seems locked up quite tightly.  No tools for the swap is nice IMO too.

Maybe it's solely cosmetic, but the A3 just looks wrong to me :(
