Spent some time at the range yesterday with some new shooters and 9x19 M16 running Colt mags.  Gun was 100% reliable even though it was filthy but the magazines are not the easiest to load - even when 'table-bumping'.

Sterling mags are an absolute dream to use with their roller-followers, some years ago I messed about with a STEn magwell adapter trying to get the Sterlings to run in the AR but never got it done.  MP5 mags are nearly as easy to use as Sterling.  Anyone ever seen either running in an AR?

You need a Cambi-loader for those Colt mags.  Do you get FedEx down there?

Please elaborate.  Yes.

I'll send you one.  If it works out to your satisfaction, you can reimburse me.

Oh- and FedEx just because it's convenient for me.  We have an account at the gun store where I work, so it's easy to ship stuff.  PM me with a shipping address and any other details I might need to ship to your little tropical paradise from the USA.

I have succeeded with making STEN and Lanchester mags work in the Colt SMG, but it's not the best set-up because the mags are too wide to allow a "web" of material between the front and rear blocks.  This means you need little set screws all over the place to hold everything in there and they are easy to misalign while using.  You also have to modify each mag to use the Colt mag catch.

Whether or not this would work with Sterling mags is a good question.  The STENs and Lanchesters are single-feed, so the bullet heads right into the chamber in a straight line.  Sterlings are dual- feed, so the round might need some sort of feed ramp or bullet guide to make it to where it needs to go.

During the ban, somebody here modified a Colt 2-pc mag block in order to use Sten mags with the Colt system, (see the Rimfire and Pistol Section). I followed his directions and was able to modify one and used it with modified Sten mags.  I then modified a Sterling mag to see if it is possible to use it with the modified mag block.  It worked. However, I have to take off a lot metal in the back of the mag to make it fit the mag block.  I ended up with a mag that was too thin in some areas.  The mag only lasted a couple of trips to range before it fell apart.  Now, I graduated from The Wylie Coyote's School of Gunsmithing, meaning I only used a dremel to do all the modification to the mag.  I'm sure somebody with better skills and better equipment can probably further modify the mag block and the Sterling mag to make it work better than I did.

Well, I hacked up 2 mag blocks, tried to fabricate 2 other blocks out of delrin, and destroyed several Sterling mags (paid $4.00per) in my quest to run Sterlings in my Oly system.  Never got the reliability out of them to be more than a frustrating range toy.  Funny thing is they functioned fine when hand cycling, just not with live ammo.  Spent a lot of time in the garage with my dremel but alas, it was for naught.  Hope you have better luck than I did.

OK, Cambi-loader has solved the problem.  This thing works perfectly, can't find a fault with it.  I have only tried Colt mags, will run some UZIs this weekend.
