Here's what I've got so far:

Handguns:
Sig 220- Carry pistol and personal favorite, does anything I need it to
SA Loaded 1911- I have it just because it's Un-American not to.  Great gun, fun for the range, also carry it sometimes
S&W model 66- First and only wheelgun, basically just a range toy to use at 50 + yards
Buckmark- Fun little plinker, great for teaching the ladies and to keep my skills fresh without breaking the bank

Rifles:
16" M4gery w/Aimpoint and BUIS-  General purpose AR
20" National Match A4 w/scope-  Uber-Accurate match grade rig.  Great when I don't want to shell out $$$ for .308.
700P- .308 long range rig
Marlin 60- Plinker extraordinaire
Browning A-Bolt- 30-06 Hunting rifle

Given these constraints:
No Glocks- Ergonomics are all wrong for me
No H&K- Same as above, but also feels like a brick
No need for another AR

What do you think my next purchase should be?  Supressor and threaded barrel for the Buckmark?  M1/M1A?  Something else entirely?  Let me know, I'd be curious to hear your opinions.  Thanks.  MJD

That's what I was thinking. Or a PTR-91 (G3 clone). You need a semi-auto .308 somewhere in there.

+1 on FAL or M14/M1A

also a shotgun would be nice (Benelli, Franchi)

I was kind of leaning toward the M14/M1A.  I've shot them before and love the feel.  Problem is finding one in good condition with all GI parts for a reasonable price.  I don't have the skills to build one.
Never really found a need for a shotgun, but if I did it would definitely be a Benelli semi-auto.  Keep up the great ideas folks.  MJD

What do you want it for or what kind of shooting do you do?

If you want if for hanging in the safe, taking pictures of to post on the internet, or general bragging rights.... I can't help you.

Generally I think you have a pretty well-rounded bunch of guns there.  I woudl suggest buying a holster, some mags, and some ammo and getting out to an IDPA or IPSC match.  You won't regret it.

You need a semiauto 7.62/.308 in there. My vote goes for the M14 type, because just like you point out about the 1911, it's un-American not to have one.

M1 Garand..It's really, really, Un-American not to own one..... Besides it would go well with the 1911, The CMP is the only place to get them at decent prices...They can also easily be converted to .308 if you want.

I agree with Ralph, my Garand is really fun to shoot. AKs are fun to shoot and I also enjoy pistol caliber carbines. If I had to pick one, I would go with the M1 Garand.

NONE of my guns are safe queens.  I don't use them as much as some people do, but they get out whenever I get the chance.  For the most part I shoot 100 yards outdoors at least 2-3 times a month.  Primarily I go out to plink around and just keep the rust off of me but there are other times when I like to go out for the tiniest group I possibly can.  IDPA or IPSC is a great idea, there's a place that holds matches about 20 miles from my house.  I'm also thinking about going to one of those 2 day carbine or defensive pistol courses.  Can you tell I've got some extra money I just don't know what to do with?  MJD

well i am always accepting donations of money, firearms, ammo, or any combination of the above if you really don't know what to do with it.  short of that i suggest you buy an exotic if you can afford it.  something along the lines of an hk p7.  while you said no hk i am guessing that you mean the usp and p2000 types.  or you could go out and buy a desert eagle--if your hands can fit around the grip.  there are also a lot of more affordable pistols that you don't see often at ranges--cz, steyr, magnum research, eaa.  there are more but i just can't think of them right now.

RPD or 1919a4 or a6
Semi m60 e4

If you decide to buy an RPD wait until I get mine next week so you don't dry up the market, there seemingly hard to come by

Tempting, very tempting.  I had the pleasure of firing reloaderbob's full-auto 1919 and a semi a couple months ago.  They are truly fun.
I've also thought about getting a CZ-52 before the no-good gun grabbers get them banned for their alleged "armor piercing" capability.  MJD

I would have to agree, looking at your collection I would go with a 308 or 30-06 semi auto.  Garand, FAL, M1A, or even PTR-91 are all good choices in that arena.

A Fal is a good option as well.

No need for another AR?  Dont understand.

Ok I'm over it now.  Everyone needs a Ruger 10/22.  Fun and easy to upgrade.

M1A/M14 always a good idea.

Well, I think I made up my mind.  M1A/M14 here I come.  They're just so versatile and easy handling.  .308 is a bit cheaper than 30-06, more surplus available, and not as "kicky".  Plus, I like detachable mags better than clips.  Now off to the M1A forums for more advice.  MJD

Is that a neutered mag or is that the way a 20 rounder looks?  I thought the 20's stuck out further.  MJD

Nope that's a 10 rounder

The 20's are much longer and very noticeable.

Its a Springfield M1A and IIRC it cost about 1100

There's a ton of upgrades for them as you know.  I recommend a good scope mount and a very good cheek pad
