How deep are you getting your NFA engravings done?  I know what the minimum is, 0.003".  I'm just wondering how much over the minimum people are requesting or just seeing from the engravers they've sent to.

I have since found out that the one I just had engraved was .006"

I had an AR15 lower done on a mill, so they obviously know how deep they are going based on their programming. I just had an AK47 done via laser and the guy doing it made multiple passes and used some sort of jeweler's lens to verify depth. Both look great and I never specified depth. Conversely, I have an old lower that has dot matrix laser engraving that is so shallow that I can't even see it in the dim light. I'm nervous to have it cerakoted out of fear that it will be illegible.
