Every few years I put in an order and re-plenish my stocks. A good deal right now is the Argentine .308 from Ammunitionstore.com. If you call and mention the e-mail special before Sept 30, which is tomorrow, a case is $120. And here's a good forum for a review on prospective .308:

If somebody has a better deal, my credit card is still way below the limit

edit: Found this post, so I'm going to cancel my order

I'd say that's the best deal going, thanks for the tip!

Too risky to chance. Thanks for the report.

Looking at the Photo on the other link, that ammo scares me.

Myself, I just stock up on Port when offered, and If I can't find it, then I will buy enough SA to hold me off until it is offered again. If I have to spend over the $180 mark for great surplus ammo, the I will just buy the componets to load up a thousand (once fired cases, 147 BT clean pull downs, 2230c).

Primers $15
Powder $54 (around 6 1/2 lbs of 2230c @65 a 8 lb keg)
Cases $40
147 bullets $55

Good call on cancelling your order.

The Argentine I got sucks.

I haven't had any hangfires or misfires,but it's not
very accurate and it shoots incredibly dirty.

About 1 out of 10 rounds has a misshaped neck area
on the shell casing.
Some bad enough that I go threw each box before I put
any in my mags.
I have also found 5 rounds so far out of 300 with a green
dry crust around the bullet on the casing.
I tossed these as well.

I won't buty it again ,but I'm using it up as plinker ammo
to get rid of it.

Now you know why they did so lousy in the Falklands.

From what I've seen, there are several different batches of Argentine out there.

I've fired 3000rds of this from Ammoman.

Cases were bright and clean, and every round went bang in my G3 and, it was fairly clean burning.

BTW: Aim Surplus has SA battle packs at a pretty good $$$

ya get what ya pay for...I guess

I has 2K rounds of the red sealant nappy lookin stuff. It all went bang. Accuracy was good enough for mansize targets out to 500M. I would buy more at $120, but don't really want to pay $25 per K shippng.

Anybody tried the "mixed" stuff from Southern Ammo?

Curious what you think about it, is it worth it?

Can we get a list of good and bad lot numbers going?
