a Zastava M24/79 Mauser?  The local Cabelas has a few on the clearance rack for $279 and I am tempted to pick one up.  I know that all the cheap surplus 8mm is gone but it would not be a primary shooter either.  Is that a fair price or should I hold off?

It's not a bad price.  They are well made and generally pretty accurate for an old military bolt action.
8mm surplus is still available and I have no problem finding it at gunshows for around 50 cents per round.

Thats sounds like a decent deal.

I had one of those a few years ago and it was an excellent rifle. I miss it, but I was offered a good deal for it.
That's a good price for it right now, too. I wish I could find another at the price I paid back then, though!
