Whattya recommend for 0-100 yards?  Variable? Reflex?

I have a 20" rifled & cantilevered 870 for use from my treestand.

Some sort of 2-7x33 scope. I highly recommend a  Leupold UltimateSlam. It'll run ya around $250 but you'll be happy you bought it. It has a SABR reticle that is calibrated for different gauges by changing the magnification. I've got one on my Ruger 77/44 with it set on the 20 gauge slug setting and the SABR reticle works great. It's clear, collects a lot of light and its tough as nails.

Good choice, as is the standard  VX-ll model.

For a basic hunting scope I always start out looking at the 2-7 or 3-9 Leupold VX-ll models unless something more specialized is called for. I've always been satisfied with the Leupold quality.

my brush gun is a 12g auto with an aimpoint on it, while i can make hits at 100yds, i just consider it a 50yd gun

my sitting gun is savages 20g bolt action shotgun with a 3-9 on it, and i just leave it a 3x

Thanks everyone.  I'm definitely opting for a magnified optic, based on the same points made here re: RDS.  That said, I'd really like to adhere to the following:

1) 3.5-4.5" of eye relief

2) affordable

3) durable

4) quality

5) low power magnification 1X (true) to 3X or 4X.  I'd just never use the magnification on a slug gun.

I was initially looking at the Weaver 1-3 but was turned off by the 3.12" of eye relief.  I think on a cantilevered slug gun it should be more.  I'll check out the Leupolds.  Thanks!
