I have a Marlin lever action in .38/.357.  The owner's manual clearly states that I should not shoot shot shells in it [CCI makes shot shells for .38s and .357s].  Would shooting shot shells damage my barrel in any way?

Any advice and/or experiences you could share are appreciated.
