Estes Adams will be producing a semi auto FG42 in a limited run of 200-300 guns. 1st model. Estimated cost $4200. Estimated availability Aug 2006. BTW. for those who do not know who Estes is, he makes spare parts for the FG42, 1st and 2nd model. He is already set up to produce the parts, so chances this will really happen are very, very good. All parts will be new production, since for obvious reasons there are no parts kits out there. OMG This is my dream rifle. I'm about to blow a load in my pants.

Why can't someone just make a damn Stg.44
 It would be a Helluva lot cheaper than 4200 bucks... I really like the FG42, but I think that someone could sell a lot more 44s than FGs, IMO. Ammo would be a SERIOUS issue though. I guess that is the # 1 reason why no one has done it yet, so sad  Either way... I hope that the FG42 project works out well and I hope that many are sold. If this weren't the year of the PS90, Sigarms "rifle" and the ARM... I would defnitely be in for one myself  Cheers to the fella making these really nice rifles  |

Actually seen the Japanese Shoei mags (which work in a real FG42 BTW) for as cheap as $60 each. |

How would it be cheaper? Similar stamped construction, and all the parts would have to be made new as well... MP44 kits have pretty much dried up. |

4200 is almost a registered Uzi bolt or 2 Macs. It might be neat to have, but I can't see spending that much on a semi.

I've always been intriqued by these weapons. Between the goodies I plan on buying from Steve at Adco firearms and this, I'm going to have to spend another month or two in Iraq.

I was looking at the stamped parts aspect compared to milled guns. Also, it would be easier for the fact that it already has 2 more modern guns to take parts from ( or the simplistic ideas ) the AK47 and the HK roller guns. I'm just saying that it would be pretty easy to make all of the parts necessary for the gun given what we know about AKs and HKs. I think the 1 big thing holding a Stg.44 back is the ammo, not availble WW2 kits. Anyway, I am just taking a shot at the idea... I'm no expert. Hell, no one can even stamp a quality AK or HK94 receiver ( after many tries ) in the US, so I guess a 44 would be out of the question Now back to your FG42 program....  |

I'm sure this is heresy, but as far as ammo availability, I wonder about the possibility of doing something along the lines of the MP44 in 7.62x39. I too worry about the price of 7.92x33 ammo, since I'm going to have to buy my own when I go shooting one. |

I did not even know what a FG42 was until last weekend. That is when an acquaintance of mine was telling me about a local guy working on the same thing. I have not see the prototype but he has. Said it looked really nice. This one is supposed to be chambered in 308 and I think use M14 magazines. That is all I know about it at the moment. Appearantly the guy is not wanting to talk to much until he gets everything in place.
