I was looking over a Bushmaster today and considering purchase. When I pulled the charging handle back the spring made a God-awful scratching screeching noise.Does it just need lube or could there be something else wrong?

that's just the sound they make.

No Lube is necessary or required on the buffer/spring assembly

...but it doesn't do it on my DPMS or any other I've handled. What gives?

on my newer rifles, it's more pronounced.

my guess is that it'll get quieter over time.

It'll brake in.

Besides, it's probably the "display" model.
It's factory grease is probably all gummed up.

Not to worry, buffer tube just needs to be polished a little. Best way to do that is to put a couple hundred rounds downrange, or I will do it for you if you send me the rifle and 200rds

The buffer on my Bushy made that sound the other day. I took out the buffer and spring and put it right bad in and back to normal. Went shooting and nothing. I think the spring may have just been bound up a bit.
