Saved this C96 that was being stored in a sock in a basement...

Good news is i caught the rust before it went too far. Fleckling .. but the price was right and the bore is in great shape. Matching down to the grips.

Medals are WW1 German / Austria-hungary

Any history?  Were the medals part of the find?

Wow, that's awesome!  Looks great and the photography is amazing.

I found my own but she was rode hard and put away wet.  But she shoots well.

no, its a 1920s civilian bolo. So it missed ww1; but i think the medals add to the image.

Sadly thats how most of them are.. unless you find a mint one and get ready to pay out the nose.

What marks it as post war? I occasionaly run across random old guns and would love a WWI C96, but don't know how to tell.

1. Serial number - dates its from 1920-1930s - exact date is unknown because of the destruction of the records by the allies in world war 2.

2. Its a small frame bolo. They had to go to a smaller frame after the treaty of versailles.

Rode hard and put away wet?  She is just the condition I like them in!  A good solid firearm, but with enough  "character" so it won't hurt it to actually shoot it some.  Mint, matching guns are great to look at, but a firearm is meant to be shot.  Being able to shoot it just adds to the interest of owning a classic firearm.
