Quick question for whoever might know.
I noticed when filling out a form 1 that the prefix on some early low number S&W lowers has a SMXXXXX as apposed to a SWXXXXX on some high number ones.
Anyone know of a reason or difference in them?

Regards

Jim

This is just a guess, so don't put too much faith in my answer.

Early on, S&W M&P15s were manufactured by someone other than S&W (maybe it was Stag?), whereas later on they brought manufacturing in-house.
