Trying to decide between the two. I'll be mounting it on an Ultimak M8 rail. My dilemma is deciding between the 4 MOA of the H1 or 2 MOA of the ML3. My SOCOM is part of the first batch SAi made and is a tackdriver for what it is. I'm holding 2.5 in. or better groups with PRVI ball at 100 yds. as long as I do my part. My question is this will there be a major difference in accuracy between the 2 and 4 MOA dots. I want something that will give me good accuracy out to at least 300 yds.

Mainly looking at the H1 for weight conservation and ease of co-witness but the 4 MOA dot causes some concern. I'd like to match the dot up to what the rifle is capable of. Currently running an ML3 2 MOA on my M4gery and I can dead center an 8 in. plate at 300 yds. all day so I know it's good to go. All this being said I'm looking for feedback from anyone running this setup if possible. All opinions or suggestions will be appeciated. TIA.

2MOA dot is a big difference for me, but yes it does weigh more. If your SOCOM is as accurate as mine, you can get out past 500 yards with the 2MOA with excellent consistency. Also you can use a low mount ring with the ML3 and you will have a perfect co-witness setup. I guess it depends if you are satisfied with 300yrds. The range I shoot at has metal targets out to 600yrds so I prefer the smaller dot.

I like the setup you have. Where did you get the low mount ring and how did you mount up the Magpul forward grip? Also 300 yds. is the max on the range I go to so that's what I'm shooting for. If I need to go further I'll break out the bolt gun.

Best M1A I've ever known was a 18" Scout with an Ultimak rail and a T-1 on a low Larue mount.  It's lightweight helps with the maneauverability of the platform yet maintains a good cheekweld.  It's 4MOA dot is just as accurate as a 2MOA - depends where you zero.  That said...for typical ranges (ie <300 yards)  - the 4MOA will land you on a typical silhouette just fine out to the point where you'll have to use a holdover.

No red dot (as far as I know - correct me if I'm wrong) will allow for a cowitness using the Ultimak rail. I stand corrected!

Personally, I think the H-1 is a better option for a Scout set up.  That said, I wouldn't kick a full sized Aimpoint out of bed either.

On the Ultimak and co-witness, that is the whole point of using the Ultimak, its the only rail for the M1A low enough to allow co-witness. Otherwise there are much lighter weight mounting rails out there.

Thanks Golgo. Which rails and what hardware did you use for installation?  Now to break out the squirrel money and start looking for a deal on another ML3. Of course I could just buy the M4S I want and then put my ML3 on the SOCOM. HMMM. Decisions, decisions.

About three years ago, my 57 yr old eyes at the time suddenly would not cooperate with me at all when it came to using irons. I got lucky on the EE and found great deals on a slightly used ML3 as well as a T1.
I ended up ordering a couple of Ultimaks, one for an M1 carbine and the other for my 18.5" LRB. The ML3 is a 2moa dot and I figured it should go on the M14 and take advantage of the M14's accuracy over the carbine. It's not an "accuracy" issue between the two optics, but that smaller dot makes a huge difference especially as your range increases.
I've got no regrets on my decision and couldn't be happier with the results. The best mount to achieve the best cowitness is the Aimpoint ring. Cheapest place by FAR to purchase is from DSA:

At first I thought I wanted a QD mount...guess that was wishful thinking hoping my eyes would get better. I realized all the QD mounts put the optic a little higher than the Aimpoint ring. When I finally found a great price at DSA for the Aimpoint ring, it was a no-brainer. That mount will give you the lowest co-witness possible and it's actually up to three times cheaper than other sources for the same mount.
By the way, the T1 on the M1 carbine doesn't give me as good a co-witness as the ML3 does on the M14, but it's acceptable and for my eyes, the Aimpoints have allowed me to continue to shoot without having to resort to magnified optics and enjoy true cowitness on the M14 platform. None of this would be possible without the Ultimak mount.
I say go with the ML3 in 2moa with the low aimpoint ring and the Ultimak mount and don't look back!

Thanks for input fellas. I've decided to go the ML3 route with the Aimpoint low mount. Now to get the rifle broken in some more so I can get the op rod off. I really don't want to use the screwdriver method if I can avoid it. Thanks again.
