So what's the deal with the G36 magwell? Can you put it on a SL8 to use G36 mags? Will that work and/or is it legal? Just wondering.

There is a SL8 type sold in Europe that takes the regular G36 mags, if I recall correctly.

I don't know about the US model SL8 and the G36 mags, but I swear I've seen this question on HKPro before, so you might want to run a search there if you come up dry here.

Since they do have g36 10 rd mags, I would say yes it is legal. They are sheaper then the SL8 mags. Saying that I do believe that you also need a g36 type bolt. A SL8 bolt is for single feed mags like the SL8, but the G36 mag is a double feed mag like the AR-15. Hence you need an extra lug on the bolt. This is how the story was told to me, I could be wrong.

Now the interesting part, where to get a G36 bolt, not from HK. The only place to get one would be Special Weapons, ie Top Notch Parts. And that is going to cost about $600. But if you are doing a G36 conversion, you are going to need a stock and lower trigger assembly, and an AR15 magwell set up is included in that price.

Also having a G36 mag 30rd with a SL8 is considered a big no no by the ATF.

Larry36, who did your dye job on the SL8. I'd like to have that done to mine. It really looks much sharper in black! Thanks.

Very NICE! Great looking weapon!

Hey Larry, I was wondering what you would suggest about the SW stock length issue? I'm not sure if Covington still does stock work, so what's the alternative? How hard is it swapping a C Stock with the SW kit stock? I've heard some say it's very risky trying to get the pin out since it could crack the stock. Suggestions?

Thanks

I think you will get alot out of this thread on HK PRO about the stocks. BY THE WAY, Thats BS about the stocks cracking, I've "UNPINNED" over 50 of them sense Todd came out with then.
