If you own a HK sear and want to have two host guns for it, how does it work.

Say I want an MP5 and a MP5K or something.  I can only have the sear in one gun at a time.  Does that mean I have to own both guns as SBRs so they are legal when the sear is out of one of them?  Or will the ATF recognize both of them as parts for the sear?

Do I have to purchase them as SBRs and pay the tax stamp, or can I show proof of ownership of the sear?

Thanks

In order to have a "one stamp" gun ie. a registered sear, and a host, you can only have one host.

If you want multiple hosts, they need to be registered as SBR's if you want them to be shorter than 16" barrel, and whatever the minimum OAL is.

ETA:  But if you wanted a K, I would say just buy an SP89 and keep the end cap.  When you pull the sear, take the stock off and put the cap back on, it's a pistol again, no stamp necessary.

You can get them as pistol's, vector made 51's and 53's that were pistols, just make sure that you don't have a forgrip on them, and no stock when the sear isn't in them. Just SBR'ing them would be easier, but it just depends on how you want to run them and the work involved.
