Today I received the "SAS SMOCK COMBAT WINDPROOF MKII (MODIFIED) SPECIAL" which I ordered last Saturday from cadetdirect.com in the UK. It shipped out on Monday and took only two days to arrive here in Pennsylvania.  Cadet Direct's description of the smock is:

Genuine issue latest generation SAS Windproof Smock. The Mk.II is a modified version of the Smock Combat Windproof (code AA72) and features four large button-fastened front pockets with mesh bottoms, two front zipper pockets, velcro fastened sleeves, reinforced elbow pads, front button-fastened epaulette (for S'95 rank slide), full comfort mesh lining, right and left under-arm ventilation zippers, wired hood (with button fastening) and spare buttons. Also features full mesh lining throughout.

My first impression is very positive. The fabric is high quality, stitching is well done, and there are hardly any loose threads. I am 5'6" tall with a 42" chest but have a gut, so I normally wear a size XL.  Cadet Direct sells their smocks using British sizing, so I ordered a 170/112 (height/chest in cm). This fits me well. It'll provide plenty of room for layering over a fleece jacket without fitting me like a tent.

Edit: The server on which I was hosting the pictures got fried by lightning. I've rehosted them here but haven't inserted them back into this post.

Here are some pictures. First, the front, back and the tag.

Now some views of the pockets:

Unfortunately, I forgot to snap pictures of the handwarmer pockets located behind the lower front cargo pockets. Anyway, they are zippered and the outer walls of the handwarmer pockets are fleece lined.

The hood can be rolled up and secured with a loop and button, to keep it out of the way when it's not being used.

The front of the hood has a flexible wire inside the brim which allows you to shape it to your preference.

The hood can be tightened with a drawstring which has cord locks on both ends. The cord locks can be snapped together to keep them from flopping around.

There are zippered slits on each side, a bit below where you'd normally find pit-zips.

Larger pictures are available here.

I haven't had the chance to wear it yet, other than trying it on. However, it looks like it's a very well designed, well made jacket with enough pockets so that you could live out of it for some time.  I'm going camping up in North Central PA this weekend, where it'll be getting cool at night. I'm really looking forward to trying out this new piece of kit.

Nice jacket, nice review.  ( I bet that camo would work in the Wisco woods in the green season)

I need some type of camo jacket again (sold my propper multicam jacket because it didn't blend in very good here) (multicam sure is cool lookin' camo though)

I wish they were waterproof though.

If you don't mind me asking, what does one of those set you back?

Cabela's has this Alaskan outfitter camo jacket I really like, that's waterproof, but it's like $300

Billy_dee, it came to about $159 after shipping. (74.95 pounds + 35 pounds shipping.)

One of the reasons I pulled the trigger on it now was to get it before the dollar tanks more vs. the pound.

That's not a bad price.

Good point about the exchange rate.
