thinking about getting one for the deer hunt this year.  Anybody have any experience with the .30-06 model?  Any accuracy problems? Is the scope that comes with it decent (if I buy the 710, I will most likely  keep the scope.)?

thanks for any help

This was recently covered and the general concensus was that the 710 is poor quality. It comes with a cheapo scope(you get what you pay for). I would recommend you look somewhere else. Perhaps a Savage rifle if you are looking for something on the cheap side. Or a Rem 700 or Win Mod 70 would all be good choices for deer.

Thanks for helping me out BigAL.  I'll have to look into that savage.

Either that or Tikka.

I have handled one and in my opinion the 710 is just about the ugliest bolt action rifle in exsistance. I do usally prefer sythetic stocks, but that grey/blue plastic POS is just terrible. Also the bolt was real jerky and stiff.  It felt like it would fall apart if I shot it.   At my local scheels all sports the used gun section is full of 710's.  That shuld tell you some thing.

Another important thing to remember is that you will have a greater choice of chamberings in other rifles.  Only being able to choose form a .270 or .30-06 is fairly limiting.
